Latour might be the biggest talent for GT racing among the crop of French riders. Much more complete than Pinot at the same age and I think he is a bigger talent for he long and tough climbs than Bardet and Barguil.

Anyway weak riding by all favorites. All waiting until 4km to go. :(
That's what you get with these b riders.
Well, with 3 consecutive MTFs with the last one being by far the hardest I can kinda understand the fact that they want to save some energy for the next days.
The final 5 days of this edition of the TdS are brutal, 5 hard gc stages back to back is a bit over the top.

Totally. Over the top is an euphemism. It's dumb and grotesque, plain and simple. Awful course design.

france has a few good climbers now with tibopino, bardet, barguil and seems like latour as well...now who will make the jump to the next level?

I've been wondering that myself. They're all 25 or under, I believe, so there's room for growth. TP seems to be making the steadiest long-term progress. Alaphilippe seems like the most naturally gifted of them all, though whether he'll ever be a TDF guy remains to be seen.

Also quite literally over the top.
Several of them in fact.

Alaphilippe becoming GT material should be completely ruled out. I wouldn't fancy that tranformation nor do I see it as something that could actually happen.

Atapuma the dirty wheelsucker going.
Yeah what a dirty wheelsucker he is, how dare he use smart tactics

Let me guess, you just tuned in?
Well watch the Giro mountain stages and see how his tactic worked for him.

The Giro has very little to do with today.

He was the best climber in the group and contributed next to nothing. When Wellens tried to force him to work with them, he seemed to do it at first, only to just let the wheel in front of him go a few seconds later. It's not even 'a tactic'.

Other than that I like him though.

Top 10 and stage wins at the Vuelta wouldn't surprise me, but you're right, Alaphilippe becoming a real gt contender would be a big surprise.

Today Vakoc was the best Czech rider, on a MTF in a race with both König and Hirt in it, who would have thought that?

Vamos Puma! Great to see him get his win.

Cycling. You put on too much of a show, your odds get worse, even if you've got the talents of a Peter Sagan (how easily people forget) or Romain Bardet. You're "smart enough" wheelsuck all the way to the line and you get scant praise, even if you're a Simon Gerrans or a Giovanni Visconti trying to make the most of incomplete abilities. Such is life on two wheels.

Atapuma's still firmly in the tries too much to put on a show, in my rankings. YMMV.

Never liked too much Teejay. Now even less.

Ugly riding style, dumb face, rides for BMC, scared of zika, overrated as **** and rides after teammate

What's there to like?

He's got a pregant women at home. If anything, he showed guts and brains to skip the freaking Olympics.

Overreacting seems more like it. Oh well we won't miss him

Exactly. I understand him and I'm 'suspicious' to comment on the matter, but it would be like if Mollema(!?) said the same. It'ld have the same impact on the race. Or if Mentjes(!?) would'nt go to the tour due to fear of another isis atack in France...

A typically cagey first mountain stage in a WT race. You let Atapuma go at your peril.

strangely, i watched the video back on youtube, and Latour crosses the line at +7 on the board and V Garderen at +8
clock doesn't even go to +9 after Kelderman passed. Wonder where they found an extra second. Swiss clocks not what they used to be

The guy has a pregnant wife, why all the criticism? Jeez, I think he's a pretty dull rider, and certainly not a favorite of mine but let he and his make the best decision for their family.

The Giro had a lot to do with today. There was a stage where Atapuma did all the work, constantly attacked only to be beaten by the rider that waited and waited.
Also the stage where they caught him at the line he did a lotmof work as well. This time he played the tactic card. Not the prettiest and when your a supporter of Wellens like you are it's frustating to watch, but in the end he finally he got his victory and that's what matters.
If I didn't see the Giro I probably wouldn't have liked Atapuma winning so much, but with the Giro in mind I'm realllly happy for him.

Allthough I think he's too cautious I can understand him. Before I had kids I probably would've said he's an idiot :D

And why would he contribute?! He's the best climber, so what? His only task today is to win the stage. He did that perfectly. I'm sure he and his team are very satisfied with today's performance

Gorka Izagirre catching a second breath, beating his famed brother! I like both of them, but Gorka more.
Edit: Izaguirre.

Being left behind with nothing in the Giro is no excuse for being a bit of an arse here. there's a lot of middle ground between that and doing all the work. Moreover he was also the best climber thus had the most interest in keeping the break going.

But oh well, he indeed deserved this after the Giro :) and because he's one of few beautiful pure mountain goats.

@Mr.White
Why would he contribute, really?

My main issue with Teejay is his idiotic name. And attacking Cadel on the Peguere.
