This race looks too hard. No wonder why some riders have decided to skip it. Too close to the Tour as well. It could require more time to recuperate.

Agree. I don't understand why some good - but not great - GC riders don't target this, and then rest up for the Vuelta....

So no Intxausti on the start list? König seems to be back, but we haven't heard anything about Intxausti for a while either. Anyone know when he'll be back?

Could still finish in the top 10 at the Tour, but at least he said the the TdS is one of his biggest goals.pink_jersey said:

In days past we the Swiss would have come up with a course favourable to power riders like Cancellara or Küng. Nowadays we feel they're not up to the task anyway so we go bananas and come up with the hardest course we can imagine for a race held 10 days before the Tour. Albasini is the one who's going to pay the price.

Climbing with the best guys in the world, and time trial with the best guys in the world. So, getting back there is a good step in the right direction.”

Yes and they also have Rolland, who's main target is the Tour and Rolland just needs a team that is able to protect him on th lfat stages, then he should be able to do well.Valv.Piti said:

They would probably have to move it completely away from a 'Tour prep' race. Even if it was a week later most of the big guns would not ride in both.

Well, the startlist isn't too bad. I enjoy watching 2nd and 3rd tiers and up and coming climbers compete in a race such as this. Spilak, TJ, Atapuma, Thomas, Konig, Gesink, Kelderman, Costa, Barguil, Talansky, Frank, Superman Lopez, Peraud, Izagirre and Anacona.. not too bad IMO. Should make for a good and open race.

I´m Portuguese, so i lova Rui Costa, but since some years ago that i´m critic of some of his choices...
Maybe i´m wrong, but i think, this is the harder SUISSE TOUR of the last years. I don´t think that suit his caracteristics, but, he can perform well, maybe a top 5. If he wins, that will be a surprise to me, but, without the majoraty of the top guys who knows...~
I think he his a fantastic rider that can win much more races if he choose the write ones, and forget some dreams ( like the one of the tour) that just desgastate him.
I choose Thomas to the win.

No big boys restraining themselves for the Tour, tuning up their teams, or playing mind games; just racers who we don't often see at the front of affairs riding for themselves for once, trying to get that rare win. The lack of dominance of one climber or mountain train makes the climbing a lot more equal, and thus incentivises attacks. With Velon's megalomaniac ambitions, I hope they don't change Suisse's position in the calendar or in terms of prestige: while I wouldn't mind the nostalgia value of shifting the TdS away from the second-best Tour prep race and making it the fourth GT again, it would make for less interesting racing, and the Tour's dominance of the cycling world right now would probably mean that this would be regarded simply as an indicator for July whatever time of the year it was held in. IMO, the balance is right now (although I'd like to see Pinot ride for the win in this race, and I think he will when the French RR is not literally designed by him).

Wait, are some people actually happy with this route? 
Seriously, three back to back difficult MTFs the last one being Rettenbachferner = very boring racing with the favourites only attacking in the last few km because they're all scared of Rettenbach. I have no problem with three difficult mountain stages in Suisse, but I have a problem with these particular stages and the fact that they're positioned right after each other.
