Only four riders, windy conditions, almost entire stage at the front... Tall order.

Polanc is a capable rider and a Giro stage winner, I do think he needed one more climbing type in the break to stay away but in saying that it wouldn't shock me if he held on today.

I'd be really surprised if no one else tries something... This stage is very good opportunity for a stage victory.

I found a couple of live webcam on the Volcano and the wind seems strong with the cam that shake and rattle.
Anyone knows if the road they use this year is exposed or not?

All roads up the volcano are exposed.
There are only a few trees at the beginning of the climb.

There should be a tailwind for most of today - at least until the final climb - which gives the break more of a chance

Eh, why are cannondale not in the break? I thought the whole point of their team was to be in these kind of breaks. Come to think of it I think this is a missed opportunity for a lot of teams, or were a lot of breaks chased down so they only let 4 go that I missed earlier?

This is the kind of stage in the first week of a GT that Contador is sooo missed



anyways...... I expect either a breakaway winner or Landa/Pinot/G to out sprint the rest of the GC contenders with no gaps whatsoever....

No, break got away easily. Makes no sense at all. On the other hand, it's a good thing for the race between the gc guys on Etna.

No, break got away easily. Makes no sense at all. On the other hand, it's a good thing for the race between the gc guys on Etna.

Combination of completely flat roads and a strong team in pink. Villela and Jauregi were chasing for a while but mown down by Quickstep
