TJ Van Garderen ...what is up with him ?

two of his team mates Dennis and Caruso finished away ahead of him ?
Surely at training he must be better to get the leadership ??
Does he just fall apart when its a race ??

i thought the same thing. I think I know the real answer, but that's a clinic discussion.

Dumoulin said he went too early but really wanted to make up time too desoerately. Still happy with how he ended

T-J doesn't seem to respond well to pressure, perhaps he should just work for Richie like he did for Cadel

Nairo said he wasn't feeling too well this week and had a flu.
What kind of flu was that?

I don't believe what these riders say anymore.
He won, it is not like he is in need of excuses today. Could be it wasn't that severe and it could also explain his choice of tactics, as I thought he was a bit passive today. He was even showing teeth and grimassing throughout the climb, which I haven't seen him do often.

Is there a chance for a GC battle in tomorrow's stage ?
Probably not, but there are a few riders who have to regain some dignity, so maybe there will be some excitement.

I think everyone near the top has some incentive to attack. Even Quintana might not be feeling comfortable with his current lead.

Thomas might be a good bet for an attack if he's still feeling good. He's got better TTers ahead of him so no reason to hold back, and it looks like a classics type of stage which he's good at.

The San Benedetto TT has never been a place where huge differences are created. So I really do not believe the likes of Yates and Quintana need to worry.

Here is the confirmation in CN:

Call me stubborn but I have heard these explanations too many times from riders. It doesn't mean they are not true. Just that we don't know when they are true or just exaggerated.

Hell of a ride by Spilak. He was arguably the strongest today. Apparently there was a headwind on the last climb and he was exposed to the wind by far the most time of any rider in the last 13km. Judging by his performances in Algarve and here, I can tell he is going to have a very strong year. He is way better than last year and arguably the best he's ever been in this time of year. He'll be fighting for the win in Pais Vasco and Romandie if he rides them.

Quintana has become a master tactician in my opinion. He knows perfectly when to use his decisive attack. Expected but a good win for him. Thomas also very strong. Good rides for Uran, Dumoulin, Roglic, Castroviejo and Bernal.

I've had big hopes for tomorrow's stage. It'd be better if there was rain but I still believe the last 30km can induce some aggressive racing.

Yes, I'm really happy for Spilak, it was sunny but rather cold, that kind of weather also suits him pretty well (just look at his performance on the Rettenbachferner in 2015).
Let's hope that we'll see him in peak shape for Romandie and maybe also for the Tour de Suisse.

Well, Yates need to worry, Castro and Dennis are 30-35 seconds from him, and that's in their reach. Dumoulin also is not that far back...
