Basically, Aru, Mollema, Dumoulin, Thomas, Landa, Costa, Nibali, Majka and Uran are already out of it.

It's Van Garderen vs Pinot vs Quintana vs A.Yates

Maybe we should add Dennis, Terminillo isn't the hardest climb of the world and Dennis has had some good days on regular climbs before.

edit: Forgot all about Jungels, didn't think Quick Step brought a GC men. Then definately add Jungels

Jungles also has a chance if he can handle the pain on the climbs.

None of Van Garderen, Jungels and Dennis will finish within one minute of Quintana on the Terminillo.

Quintanita vs Pinot

and WTF happened to SKY?

Three broken wheels for three different riders.

2 flat tires and one broken wheel no?

Thomas says 3 broken wheels

Come on,this is ridiculous if true  The other 2 were reported as flat tires.

That's a batch issue if true, Shimano needs to check every damn wheel.

Epic. TA over before any individual action

Cant wait for Catalynya
Indeed. Many ridera are out of contention even before the hard stages. 22 km TTT is way too much for one week of racing. 10 km would have been enough
Then I realize Catalunya has 40 km of TT which is even worse with just La Molina and and not even the full Mont Caro to change the GC

Sky needs to go stage hunting now.

Yep, a stage win or two would be a good consolation prize for them after today's disaster, especially that they have right people for each type of terrain to come: Kwiatkowski/Thomas for hilly stages, Landa/Rosa for Terminillo, Viviani if any of the stages ends with a mass sprint.

Would be also interesting to watch the Skyborgs riding aggressively and launching attack after attack each day, instead of pacing the peloton and defending their leader.

Where's this Tejay hype coming from? For a rider who ALWAYS starts the year in good condition, his performance in Abu Dhabi was ****. Am I missing something?

Dennis > TJ.

Anyways, its Pinot vs Quintana. It was already expected to beforehand, but at this point, I simply can't see anyone threatening them. Unless TJ or Dennis somehow pulls a miracle on Terminillo.

I'd say Rosa for Fermo too

30 seconds isn't necessarily that much. The stage to Fermo is so well designed that it is possible to lose a minute quite easily. Terminillo shouldn't make gaps more than 45 seconds, as Nairo pulled out that much in 2015 and he was very strong that spring. Looking at Larciano, he isn't as strong this year.

what is Larciano?

I guess it depends on what we want to pick as reference TBH.

Quintana, like Contador and Froome, are pretty shitty one day racers. They are pretty equal there. No surprise really.

But you are right, if the Fermo stage erupts it could create havoc. Lets hope that!

Dennis doesn't need a miracle on Terminillo. All he needs to do is limit the damage, with the time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto in mind. I feel like he is a bigger threat than most make him to be - if anything, I don't even know if he is seen as a threat. He's got a nice advantage now.

I think this race is still wide open. Tibopino is my favorite and will be eager to take the trident he should have got last year.
Sky can't win the race but can play a role, attacking on the road to Fermo and creating chaos. Not their style normally but they have weapons to use.

If you are talking about that one day race last Saturday I don't think Quintana cared at all. He let one of his teammates get some glory. Why would this race be any kind of measure for Quintana?

I dno, it really shouldn't be used as a measuring stick, I completely agree.

Yeah, but in a stage race they're not that bad at those kind of stages. They can all hold their own in good shape.

Yes, but there are still better and more explosive puncheurs/climbers for the Fermo-stage than Quintana even in very good shape. From that and to say he easily can lose 1 minute, yeah... not gonna happen. Especially on the 5th day in a very hard and demanding race such as Tirreno.

Quintana vs Tibopino for the overall. The way the Fermo stage is ridden will decide who will win.
Nibali will need a miracle to win the Giro with this crappy team. :(
