Dupont took advantage on peloton slowed down waiting for Scarponi and attacked :/
Was Scarponi's crash due to an external element?
Mayb. I don't know. Dupont knew what was the Scarpa crash nature?

Who cares? So he crashed... Afaik the race wasn't neutralized, so of course it's fine to attack.

I'm sure everyone waited for each other 50 years ago...

Montaguti's post race interview (Eurosport);

"Today was a win that was somewhat unexpected,” he continued. “The team had asked me to do the sprint but just to take the bonus seconds away from Thibaut Pinot who was just behind Domenico.”

Montaguti also gave credit to the very man he was ordered to take time from for being a “fair player” in the finish.

“I went to Pinot after the stage to say thank you and congratulate him on second place since I had to pass him on the right and almost made him crash, but it was the only channel I could take,” admitted Montaguti. “When I tried to pass on the right and he didn’t close me, I give even more and understood that no one could come back from the left since it was slightly more windy on that side while I was more sheltered.

"In the end, I understand that if Thibaut went out to slam the door I would have braked and would have lost this race, so it was really great fair play on his side."

Class-act, Matteo. Class-act Tibopino.

Scarponi wasn't even the leader or anything.
Exactly! He's just an old man in the bunch. But whole group decided to wait. Beautiful.
But Dupoint decide to stick the finger.
I'm not even thinking about punishing him anyway. For me it's just nasty.

Pirazzi brings death to every group.
Indeed. You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger moron tactically than Pirazzi. Anyway great ride from him, Frankiny and Dupont today. Perhaps the 1 minute time gaps were inaccurate the whole time, but atleast it was entertaining while it lasted.

I am guessing riders like Pelucch will be wondering why they turned up herei

I would guess that Pelucchi will be wondering something like that every time he turns up for a race that includes a large bridge... The guy must be the worst climber in the pro peloton.

People in the bunch crash all the time and nobody waits for them. Dupont decided to do his job.

You're right. But besides him being my hometown guy, that's what I like about Tibopino. The guy is a sportsman, a virtue that is on the endangered list.

It doesn't look good to abandon before the last stage while you're in the top-10 of the GC, but at the end of the day it is up to them what they prefer (I think they mostly shoot themselves in the foot). I think the organizers have tried their best to make the race fit the Liege riders as the extra race day was Monday, the stages have been short or medium length, and no killer stages with regards to vertical gain. Maybe the last stage should have been one of the sub-150km stages, but that would probably only have made a marginal difference.

Cannondale & BMC abandons are poor....especially when high on GC ...madness really as riders who withdrew are not going to get top 10 at LBL anyways

Dont like this kind of thing as race organisers need all the help they can to keep the race going

Yeah, agree, it's not like we're talking Super Mario at the TdF ...
