I thought the mechanics could use the length of the carpet to push? it seems they are allowed about 2 steps only

What a mess.
If you are going to allow bike changes at least let them change their bike wherever they want, like all GT TT's.

Sutterlin dropped heaps on the climb despite having a 10s+ better bike change.

Winner not gonna average 40kph

Sütterlin really lost a lot of time on Lutsenko on the climb: 33 seconds (including that bike change of Lutsenko).

I think De Plus will go strong on the climb.

I sense a marketing opportunity for the official catapult of the UCI.

Change your bike at the bottom of the hill in a TT? Struggle to get going again? Use KAPOW(TM) the official catapult of the UCI!

Typical UCI lack of clarity over the rules regarding where the mechanic may push. Nobody knows.

Beautiful climb, great crowds, but why in an ITT :(

The crowd cheering that Syrian guy like he was the home favourite was absolutely amazing to see. This climb should've been in the road race ffs.

It is probably too narrow for the road race.

Someone said it was a dead end. Even if it wasn't, they most likely wouldn't have included it because Kristoff and Boasson Hagen. But it would have opened up for a longer distance.

Wait? so now they have a guy waving people not changing the bike away from using the carpet? So the carpets like a break for smokers only?

Actually, I don't mind an ITT like this once in a while. I would have preferred a more hilly ITT instead of a MTF ITT but it's ok. We're still talking about Dumoulin, Froome, Dennis, Kiryienka etc. as the biggest favorites, so it's not like it skewed towards climbers who can TT well anyway.

It's only a 3rd category climb. Not exactly an MTF.
It's a 2nd cat climb without a doubt.

When you do the Length*Grade^2 it scores 280, where 2nd cat is usually in the 200-400 range.
