Benoot working for Gilbert. Utterly stupid.

Did he have any other options at all?
He could have eased up a bit waiting for the big group coming up behind with several willing domestiques in it.

Wait from 60k to go, or 35k to go? If he waits 35k to go, his race is pretty much over as fresher riders will join the group. And, the 3rd group was nowhere when GVA attacked, so no point in waiting there as well.
Well, if he would have waited at any point he'd be in pretty much the same position he is now, but a bit fresher. So yes, he did have other options.

In hindsight, yeah it makes more sense for him to sit up after the crash. Would you make that decision during the race? Not at all

WTF is BMC doing?

GVA spent way more energy compared to other riders in the group, it makes sense that they do not want to work anymore.
They have Roelandts in the group. They should ride for him now, not GVA.

Roelandts hit the front right now, but he looks pretty uncomfortable for me, not sure if he can put a winning ride.

Also, Terpstra just dropped Lampaert

I agree it was a tough decision to make in the race - and it's easy to say with hindsight. But it was still an option at various points, and his DS who can see the whole picture could perhaps have told him to ease up a bit when the bigger group behind was eating up the gap.

Maybe he's got his eyes on bigger prizes though and wanted to get a great training effort in whatever the race situation.
