Gravel is cool, but I don't really see the point of riding a serious bike race on those ultra-narrow "roads". Seems like gimicky way to make a race more difficult by introducing an element of randomness.

Just look at the crazy cobbles that the Giro del Lazio had back in the 90ies, that makes something like this look really tame:

I think it's done very tastefully. The gravel was pretty easy, but the roads were narrow and exposed, perfect to secure the pace is high between the two Kemmel ascents.
