Re: 2018 Giro d'Italia, Stage 1: Jerusalem - Jerusalem ITT 9

Doing the recon prerace, is there any reason to push it on the approach to bends/corners like Froome did (crash), putting you at risk of making a mistake like he did? I would assume recons are to check out the route for any dodgy areas that could potentially become dangerous, giving you a heads up for the race itself. Looking at that video, if he knows he's gonna come off, could he not just keep straight wheels and slow down more gently and restricting the damage that could happen? Split decision I know, but surely he can see a sharpish bend appearing and slow down. Its a recon not actual race.

Not really. I don't think Froome thought he was pushing it and was just very surprised by the narrow end of the corner and then breaked a little too drastically leading to his front wheel disappearing from under him

It is one thing crashing during a race, get on the bike again and finish the race. Because normally you will get adrenalin and the stiffness dont come until after. Totally different thing crashing and then having to wait 4-5 hours... those crashes gonna hurt more now. I would be very surprised if they both dont lose some time on their rivals.
