A breakaway win? Nothing until that last crazy 1 km? A certain GC guy blows up on the first climb? Someone has this stage marked down for an attempt to win, but can n't put my finger on it. 1 of the Astana guys maybe .. the first hour will be very interesting - shame we can not see it! :(

Long stage and pretty hard for "flat stage". Would have be interesting to have seen first 1-2 hour and the first climb. Fight for the break or a team set the pace up on the first climb.

If weather is bad and it is gonna be windy it will be a long day in the saddle.

#Giro101 There were several breakaway attempts in the opening phase. For now, a group of thirteen riders managed to escape with four riders chasing them.

Ballerini, Sanchez, Mohoric, Hermans,Neilands, King, Scully, Martin, Bouwman, Pantano, Pedersen, Conti and Mosca in the front group.
Montaguti, Fernandez and Schmidt joined them a few minutes ago,Ciccone is bridging up as well.

Closest in GC should be Conti @ 10'50", right?

Yes; it would have been more fun with Schachmann, Bilbao or Betancur there.

Anyway, it's not a done deal yet. No Lotto riders in the break, this stage should suit Wellens.

No one from Quick-Step or Bora. They might still have a reduced bunch sprint in mind. M-S would gladly give 10 minutes however.

Viviani is being dropped. Perhaps QS's primary task will be to bring him back after the Cat 2 mountain.

Sprinters are having fun right now. Viviani and others got dropped from the peloton.

Not sure this is the final break. A few may only be there for the KOM points and others are probably going to get across on the descent

#Giro101 Due to the fast pace in the front group on the Fonte della Creta climb, Fernandez, Schmidt, Pedersen and Mosca have been dropped. Thirteen escapees remaining at the moment.
