IIRC LA's resting heartrate was in the forties, which still blows my mind.
Indurain allegedly had a resting heart rate of 28

That's nuts, I cannot imagine what that must be like.

Slept in a coma ?
Didn't Indurain have to be awoken intermittently during the tour to prevent life-threatening blood thickening? Or perhaps that was Riis. Or both.

What a mess

I took a neighbor to the local hospital one day many years back so he could get some road rash cleaned up (he had crashed when out on a ride) and a nurse there had a bit of a panic when she measured him at 45. He was pretty fit at the time and there were not as many Sports medicos around as now.

Yeh, having a low resting can cause dramas in hospital.
Mines 35-38 and when I had a colonoscopy (have these regularly, due to family history), the nurses were fussing about for quite a while before they realized it was normal for me.

So, this is for the sprinters, right?

Or, is the hill enough for a late attacker to steal it?

I don't remember from 2015 how difficult the climb actually is, although everything that comes before it in this stage is very different, so maybe not that relevant anyway.

Either way, should be a pretty cruisy day for most in the peloton, with the break getting away easily and then being gradually reeled in.

I know this is off topic, but it might interest some folk. Low heart rate (bradycardia) can cause problems, even for very fit athletes. I have one athlete who had to have a device implanted in his chest to record his heart rate. It was normally between 30 and 40, but would drop as low as 17 bpm in his sleep ... which is very dangerous. And if you are a fit cyclist with a heart rate below 60 bpm, it is actually worth carrying a card to that effect in your wallet or with your ICE details on your phone ... for the benefit of medics. You should also always inform nurses/doctors if you have hospital appointments, in order that they don't start looking for other reasons for your bradychardia.

You cant have gc-action every day. It was a nice breakaway stage that also made the race a bit harder for everyone. Betancur almost won!
Well, if you want a battle for the stage win I'm pretty sure tomorrows stage will be about as exciting as 2015 one.
I really don't think so. That stage was excellent - for what it was.
Tbh I don't remember it very well but for some reason I thought that it was relatively boring. Anyway, I generally agree that making this kind of stage in this part of the world is a bit underwhelming. I just think it will be a good stage or at least a good finale anyway

No Israel Cycling Academy in the break again. Did their Giro last 3 days?

Sbaragli hasn't done particularly well so far, but I'd still say that this is probably his best chance to win a stage. So I guess it makes sense to keep the team together and try to force a little selection on the final climb instead
