I'm not saying he did bad, but considering he got beaten by Yates and Buchmann
, not really known timetrialists altough they definitely improved, I'd say it was a dissapointing ITT by him.

The GC top spot is really up for grabs in the coming stages. Favorites must be Yates, Fuglsang, Pinot. I think Quintana is a little too far back.

Edit: I forgot about Kruijswijk -- he's got a shot, too.

With his skillset, there was no doubt in my mind, he would have won Paris Roubaix this year, if it wasn't for all the bad luck and dumb teamorders.

Yes. Bardet, Quintana and Pinot all didn't do good TTs today but I wasn't expecting them to do so in the first place. So I wasn't really dissapointed by them.
With Fuglsang it was different, he had a stellar year so far and is known as atleast a very solid timetrialist. So I was just expecting a bit of a better TT than he did in the end. In the end I thought it was just a bit dissapointig.

Quintana is only 40 seconds back; I think he still has a chance. So does Kruijswick.

When has he ever been a bunch sprinter? Lots of classic guys are fast, in fact I’d say a good part of the current top classics riders are faster than Van Aert.

Indeed. He was by far the best GC rider in the TdS TT last year

He was just second behind Bennett in stage 3 here. Now, the sprint field is weak, but it was still impressive.

He was 2nd and Greipel was 15th.... Also they said Kelly would never win a monument... and he didn't until his 6th year as a pro. Then he won another 8 so there's plenty of time for WVA to add another couple of strings to his bow


I'm being tongue in cheek but it was great to see him going for it yesterday all the same.

Well, it was definitely inpressive but as you say the field is very week. I think a lot of strong classics riders in shape could achieve a similar result against this field. He hasnt ever won a sprint against great competion so I dont think that’s the way he will go.

Everybody also knows that he then became a terrible TT'er and was that apparently until the Tour de Suisse TT last year.

Froome out, Dumoulin injured... If your nearest rival is TJVG (a decent ITT'er but by no means worldclass) you can't really say this field was super tough. No Campenaerts, Martin, Van Emden, Castroviejo, Lampaert, Denis... And Kwiatkowski and Kiryienka clearly taking the day off.
