You all just dreamin' too much. This was pure physics. Congrats to champs; Fortunato, Tratnik, Bernal and Yates. Remco will firstly have to eat some good and strong döner kebab to get some power in those chicken legs.

Ya, they'd be better off losing time with one of them tomorrow (probably Almeida since Remco can't descend) and have Almeida try and win on Monday. Remco can try and hang on himself and if he loses time on Monday, just sit up and go for a stage win on 17 or 19.

At this point, they're just riding for a top 10 in GC for Remco. I'd say a stage win for him would actually be worth more at this point
No. Leaning to fight all the way to the end of a GT is of the greatest value to him. At the very least he should try to hold a top 10, but also fight for a top five (only a 1:40 ish ahead of him).

He looks like he's going backwards tbf. If he can sure, but I'm pretty sure he'll lose time on Monday again (help or no help). They might as well try and get something out of the Giro with Almeida and put him in breaks though as he has a decent chance of a stage win if he can get in them. If Remco gets dropped on the descents off the Pordoi, I think there a decent chance he'll lose minutes between that, going up the Giau and descending there.

If Cavagna is actually here (who knows as seen nothing from him since stage 1) should be trying to get him into a break too.

Google translated:
"I felt when cutting the steep parts that my legs were deflating," said Remco Evenepoel, who got off the bus in his socks after his shower.
"Maybe my body is still not what we had hoped for in terms of performance."
"I'm losing time, but I'm still in the top 10. I try to fight for that every day, but the boys shouldn't really be concerned with me anymore."
"Someone like Joao (Almeida) is allowed to join a flight for a ride. I felt today that it is getting heavier and tougher and that the long break is taking hold."

Bennett should have won today but I think he burned a match or two too many in his previous break.

Nice of Astana to do Ineos's job today. I understand why they pulled but Vlasov came up way short in the end.

Yates is riding very smartly, seeing how strong Bernal/Ineos is.

I expected more from Carthy but he's still got a few chances. Did not expect Ciccone up there but it's great to see Italians doing well in the Giro, of course.

A Landa/Bilbao/Caruso combination for Bahrain could have actually given Ineos a fight, I think -- just as a Carthy/Martinez EF team could have...hope Dani's enjoying the paycheck (I'm sure he is!)

Not sure I can add anything to the DCQ discussion except to say that I'm actually pretty impressed with Remco -- looks like he's missing about 5% of his top end but that's to be expected.

It's Bernal's Giro to lose but places 2-10 are still up in the air.

Agree.

The equipment is much better than in 2003 and especially the gearing - They should be riding a minute quicker.
Not really true, the bikes are maybe just more aero than that. Weight is all the time same. Not really a thing in the equipment. Lance can give you an example, ride faster than he did in his 7 Tours

Almeida can still enter top 10 via a breakaway.
He doesn't even need it to be via a breakaway. He's in 14th now, 5 minutes behind Ciccone in 7th, and none of the riders in between them are immune to a big collapse day. Added to which, Almeida is probably good to take about 2 to 3 minutes off each of them in the TT.

A lot depends on how long he has to work for Remco, and how much time he loses doing that. If Evenepoel is over the hump having got past the steratto and Zoncolan, then Almeida by staying with him may end up climbing in the GC anyway. If Evenepoel explodes completely in the 3rd week, then QS will probably Free Almeida and let him ride out his own race.

But the gearing used today for climbs such as Angliru or Zoncolan is very different, as far as I now. For these really steep climbs this can make a huge difference. Lance Armstrong is no good example, as in the TdF climbs are not that steep.
