Ya, he's a decent sprinter so was surprised, but he took the KOM jersey for a few stages in Tirreno so guessing he might be going for that in the early stages again here. Surprised they didn't sent two riders into it really considering it wasn't difficult to make the break.
He's good in bunch sprints after a hilly race, tomorrow should suit him well. Guys like him, Vendrame and Consonni have a much better chance on those kind of stages (Sagan should be the favourite and someone like Bevin can be up there in a bunch sprint on those kind of stages).

I remember it as one of the most horrifying events in sports that I ever witnessed. His funeral was at the Saint Peters Church in Ghent. Because my University at the time was 200 metres away, I skipped class and went to the square. The ceremony was on big screens and lots of cycling royalty and sport fans were attending. I'll never forget those two days.

The guy had a very charismatic smile and his wins in the Giro and Vuelta made me happy.

I remember that day like it was yesterday.

You were so more closely involved it must really affect you.

The scene and remberence brought tears to my eyes this AM. Rest in Peace Wouter.

Gotta say Caleb is probably mine and everyone else's pick for the day assuming the breakaway is hauled in which I have little doubt it will be!

Oscuro Italiano x 3 in the break. Everything is as it usually is in the Giro. Ewan for the win. Sagan second.

Well, it's on the finale to save a rather modest Sunday stroll.
The scenery doesn't match Tour's equivalents either.

Yeah me too. Even just thinking about that day still makes me tear up a little bit, and before that i had barely even known his name. I hate that the image of his body after the crash, which was shown only for a split second on tv is one of the first ones you find on google image search for 'Wouter Weylandt'.

Can't even imagine how hard it must be for his loved ones still to watch the Giro come around year after year and especially for his little girl who never got to meet her dad. :(

Eolo–Kometa will get their first leaders jersey (mountain) in their first GT. Good Show! Are Basso and Alberto at the race?

Filippo Ganna won the first stage, because G is the first letter after F in the alphabet.
Caleb Ewan will therefore win the second stage and Peter Sagan/Pavel Sivakov the third.

If it was on purpose, it was very smart. Can take it easy and maybe go in the break again tomorrow to pick up more points.

True, but I'd say the other 2 should sit up too. They've about as much chance of me winning the stage.
They're not persisting thinking about the victory.
... Intermediates, honoring the stage, exposure, combativity...

Nizzolo would 'like to win a stage (for once)' lol.
I feel for the guy and hope he can do it.

What is the chance that Almeida is gonna sprint at the second intermediate? That one would have 1 bonus sec left, right?
