Giro d'Italia 2021 Giro Rosa - 2nd to 11th July

Yeah, if you need to have an opening TTT then either make it shorter or provide a harder route to create better opportunities for riders make up for the lost time afterwards. At least we know who has to attack tomorrow and with a bit of luck, we might actually get to watch it.

TTT rules question - how are riders on the same time from different teams separated in the classification? If the first four riders on a team are all credited with the exact same time shouldn't it be impossible for another rider to slot in between them in the results?

But today, Van den Broek-Blaak goes between the Jumbo Visma teammates, and also Liv are mostly classified ahead of FDJ, but Evita Muzic is ahead of Pauliena Kooijakkers?

If a rider doesn't finish with her teammates she gets her personal time. So for instance Blaak finished 1'16" behind her teammates, which means she was 1'24" behind Trek.

As per fdj instagram and Cilles instagram, Cille crashed in the beginning of the ttt, looks like her right shoulder was affected if you use a microscope in the picture of them crossing the line. Also, they had a puncture later on. Very unlucky, also bc it seemed they have used a lot of time to train ttt during the season.

Right, so lead of the race at 8,1km to go has 19" to the pursuers and 1'04" to the maglia rosa, but there's no images or clarification of who is in what position.

Looked like a Marina Romoli sighting in the maglia rosa ad!

Edit: brief glimpse of Anna VDB so suggests she's testa della corsa.

17" from Anna to the inseguitrice and 25" from the rest of the main bunch now being reported, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest Elisa is the inseguitrice, but could be wrong of course, this is pure guesswork based on form and historical precedent. Plenty of strong climbers in the field, I'm just thinking I'll write out most of the SD Worx riders as they wouldn't have been working yet even if they're just sitting on.

Cavalli is close to chasing down Demi and Ash, tha'ts a fabulous ride by her.

Edit: has now caught Demi who is now going to sit on her wheel it seems, which is obviously the logical course of action, rather than helping Cavalli pull back Ash or Anna. Suspect if she does catch Ash then Demi will counter-attack.

Lots of paint on the road, quite a few SD Worx names in there, interesting that Vollering's name is the one I've seen most. Cavalli's progress seems to have halted as she's gone from about 5" behind Ash when she caught Demi, back to 18".

Think the issue is the costs of going live has probably taken away from number of cam-bikes etc. which means we're kind of in the dark as to what's happening behind, other than the composition of what had been the Koppenburg group. Certainly feel like there's a good chance the Maglia Azzurra will be a bigger fight than it has been in the last several years, where it's typically been the jersey given out to the leader of the Riders Named Elisa Longo Borghini Classification.
