Tbf which sprinter is even going to stay after week two? As I see it, MVDP is favorite for this stage as well as the Ciclamino if he really wants to finish as he claimed.
if he does the flat sprints as well, yeah, I agree. But he said they'd go for Mareczko in those.

I guess Nizzolo and Demare at least will try to finish the race, as ciclamino is usually a goal for them. Gaviria as well maybe

MVDP thinks the finish is not as hard and it will be hard to drop sprinters on there. Ewan might not have been a bad shout actually.

He also says they have Mareczko for the flat sprints and he isn't necessarily interested in the ciclamino...

It's nothing special, but as long as it's not as bad and awkward as last year's Tour presentation, I won't complain, it's cycling after all

Not sure about the win but Attila Valter simply has to be in the break.

Attila Valter goal is a top10, so he will not wast energies in a break in the first stage.

For the stage win I will not forget Carapaz. He will sure be in the front and he has talent for this kind of finishes (like Frascati stage in 2019)....

Much harder than the Poggio.

Just imagine that this climb is ridden at Luke Rowe leading the peloton over a mountain pace, and Ewan wins from a bunch sprint of 100 riders, and when asked why his team didn't make the stage harder, MVDP says:

"Didn't you know that I'm saving myself for the gc?"

The stats are similar to Cipressa, but with the opposite distribution of gradients.

A more similar finish is that of Mont des Alouettes, even if that was shorter (and overall easier):

So I definitely rate the puncheurs over the sprinters.

The stage Ulissi won in 2020 was mentioned here as well:

The biggest question: will MVP gain enough time to keep the pink jersey until the end?
He might just win the tt. It’s short, seems to have a technical passage judging from the roadbook (not sure though), finishes on an explosive climb, and, most importantly, The tt field is incredibly weak.

Landed in Budapest few hours ago. Weather is very warm compared to northern Italy, I'd say 25 degrees. More of the same tomorrow according to the forecast.

I drove through Hosok Tere where tomorrow's stage (and the ITT) will start and everything looks ready. Good vibes all around.

I'm starting to wonder if Van der Poel is just trolling every interview cause he has the worst takes about the sport he's world class in.

Agrigento is harder than this in my opinion.

It's quite an atypical finish honestly, because generally short uphill finishes tend to be steeper and shorter.

This is probably around 7 minutes climbing at 5%.
