Giro d'Italia 2022 Giro d'Italia, Stage 18: Borgo Valsugana - Treviso 152 km (Thursday, May 26th)

even if he's in a break the flat finish will work against him. As in, there's 50km to go after the last climb. And everyone will look at him unless he has a teammate there. So that means he'd have to close all the gaps again and probably miss one before the end.

Plus it's likely this will end in a mass sprint anyway
Alpecin should put Oldani into the break just like DSM should send Bol if possible.

Then, it's really up to FDJ to chase only.

What a bummer. It was going to be an interesting battle between Almeida and Landa for the 3rd place.

Also, Nibali one step closer to silently voodoing his way to take GC.

PS: Don't think Valverde Top10 spot is a given. Will be hard for him to recover 5 minutes from Pozzo and Carthy is better suited to the last two mountain stages than him.

Pozzovivo almost abandoned the race yesterday with pain after his crash. He wasnt sure to start this morning. If he doesn't recover today he can easily lose more than 5 minutes tomorrow.

Sad for Almeida but it does make the GC situation very clear: the podium is settled & there's hardly any risk for the top 3 now; especially for Landa in particular, i.e. he can go all in & take more risks considering no one is threatening his 3rd place. Nibali is too far back to be a factor now.
Yes, I thought the same thing. I feel sorry for Almeida but as far as entertainment goes, this might be a blessing in disguise. There's no need for the three musketeers to work together any longer, so hopefully we'll finally get some action and entertainment GC-wise.
