Astana not interested to make the break it seems.
Bahrain a little more but failed so far.

I think it will come back together again. Too many unhappy faces in the peloton.

Contador: "See, that's me. I won the Giro, do you believe me now?"

Australians are always omnipresent wherever there's a chance for an Australian to win anything. They'd probably show up to the seal clubbing championship in Nunavut if an Australian was a favourite.

"Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum."

We do it because we can get away with it.

If this sticks and the peloton gives them 10 minutes, it's almost impossible to see Bouwman losing it unless he crashes.
Not sure about that one, the final climb is short enough that the winning move could go before it. Also, Bouwman will be a lot more tired than someone like Schmid who's spent half the race in the grupetto looking after Cavendish.

Okay, I'm gonna go full PWU here

But I expect a stalemate on GC cause Hindley suddenly trusts his ITT only to lose it by 25s to Carapaz in the final ITT.

As it stands, the podium will be Carapaz, Hindley and Landa. All three riders have finished in their respective positions on the podium in previous Giros (i.e. Carapaz 2019, Hindley 2020, Landa 2015).

The last time this happened in a Grand Tour was the 2014 Vuelta (Contador, Froome, Valverde). In the Giro, the last time this occured was 1968, when Merckx triumphed ahead of Vittorio Adorni and Felice Gimondi.

Obviously this is rare but especially so in the Giro, the Grand Tour with the most varied startlist from year to year, and where the defending champion tends not to show up in recent years.

For reference, the last time this happened in the Tour was 2001, when Armstrong, Ullrich and Beloki repeated the previous year's podium.

Guys, Kolovrat is brutal. It's like 10 km of 9%+.

A classics rider like Schmid should lose at least 2 minutes at the top to Bouwman. I'd give Attila Valter a slightly better chance, If I had to name a rival.
