This is the type of stage one would like in the final week. Here nothing will happen. Then again it is hard to build stages where something will happen in the first week of a GT.

Something could still happen on the next climb. Stage reminds me a little of stage 4 2015.

In context I think you can still say it's a good stage even if nobody tries anything on the final climb

Very hard racing, quality break and puts a lot in the legs before blockhaus.

But it does feel like it could have been a real ambush stage later in the race

GC action on a stage like this (or rather on a stage like this in the first week) is probably expecting too much. The tough climb is way too far from the finish for anyone to attack here already and the rest of the stage is too easy. I hope to be proven wrong, but I never imagined anything GC-related would happen on this stage.

I love commentators when they something like this: "Yeah, this looks like its going slow, but dont be fooled!" No, no its going pretty slow, they have literally lost 1 min in a few kilometres to the break.

didn't realize that Carapaz, Martinez and Yates will most likely be leaving Ineos this season...
Surely not, Ineos would need to sign a bunch of strong riders to replace everyone who's leaving/getting old. Porte's retiring, Thomas and Castroviejo are 35, Van Baarle's rumoured to be leaving.

Everything is wrong about this front group!
Wrong Jumbo riders, wrong Dutchmen, wrong Italian, wrong Cofidis rider.
It's all wrong!

(For my "Ragtag Bunch" CQ game team.)
