Thomas looks REALLY sharp. Haven't seen him this slim since forever.
A pity Stelvio is not on the route.
Nah, I think he is surprised to have been able to win even himself. Last year he sounded pretty resigned because he didn't feel competitive.

"You were too strong, that's why you lost."Never easy to be alone in a breakaway against three riders from the same team, even if you're the strongest (and I'd argue the strongest was De Gendt anyway).

Which is why you don't open the finale from afar when outnumbered. It was up to the others to attack and get rid of him, not the other way.Never easy to be alone in a breakaway against three riders from the same team, even if you're the strongest (and I'd argue the strongest was De Gendt anyway).
Assuming he doesn't lose 15 minutes tomorrow.G. Martin setting up his 10th on GC quite nicely.
Yeah, I got my Italians mixed up.Think Mayo's confusing him with Andrea Garosio, same age and went from Bahrain to Vini Zabù to Bardiani.
I wonder what the record is for the longest gap between Giro stage wins. It is ten years for De Gendt.

Not arguing he was spotless. He raced in typical VdP fashion and payed for it.Which is why you don't open the finale from afar when outnumbered. It was up to the others to attack and get rid of him, not the other way.

Vietto and Sivocci both had an unfair advantage, with a world war eliminating many chances to win in the intervening years
White said he was giving 2 riders the day off. Howson, I assume, was one.Interesting that Howson lost 7 minutes today. Wonder is he hurt/I'll or was that on purpose. He had been up towards the GC contenders and felt like he'd have been a good option tomorrow to follow if other GC teams send their secondary options on the attack.

It's basically like a typical solo where nobody chases then he cleans up a few spent conti riders in a sprint.Monster ride from De Gendt. Didn't think he still had it in him. Technically won't count as a solo win, but basically rode the last 40k solo with 3 backpacks anyways. Apart from Vanhoucke doing that important pull in the last kms then.
This would be a good day for Thomas De Gendt to show he's stll alive.
The only person Girmay had eyes for was MvdP. He didn't care if he won, he just didn't want MvdP to beat him.Great racing for a second day today. Hopefully the boring previous stages will fade away.
I still don't know how the two Lotto guys managed to sneak away from Girmay and MVDP.
