In terms of legs, Mas has not actually been bad. He would've been on the podium at both Tirreno and Itzulia without crashes.
Yeah but the Dauphine crash seemed to have mentally cracked him. I like the guy, but wasn't expecting him to be fighting Roglic this early in the race. It may be that he is one of those riders that performs better after 1 GT (he did just about finish the TdF).

I think rooming with Valverde may be doing him some real good.

So, an entertaining finale. But I don't think we can read too much into a 1 km climb for the GC contenders. Some guys who looked good might fade later. Some guys who looked just okay might be great later.
I think we can guess that Primoz is OK. He could accelerate to open space at any point in that last km and did a great job, even backing out of boxed space. That there were no time gaps between he and Kuss is BS, though.

Just a note on Alaphilippe: Jumbo setting a super fast tempo in the stage accomplished several things, i.e. main one being adding some fatigue to the punchier riders who might be able to beat Roglič on that sort of finish.

Recuperation & accumulated fatigue after a few days of racing has always been Alaphilippe's weakness. Add his condition on top (return from injury + Covid) & voilà, he dropped. He might have paid for his effort on that cat 3 as well when he attempted to get the bonus seconds.

Lol the Strava record on the final climb did not get broken.

Shows how much they were goofing around before they launched.

A glorious Vuelta stomp without a clinic thread bump, such is the power of King Roglič.

That there was no gap between him and anyone was BS honestly.

Well its the first 1second gap that counts, they were doing high speeds, so can imagine it was always below a second untill the bigger gap between Kuss and Yates.
I think Pedersen was just close enough. But even then if Pedersen would have been to late, it would be 1 second on the group with the others. So it wouldn't make that big of a difference.

Congratulations to Primož Roglič for winning the stage in style.

Was a nice stage to watch. Bora and JV keeping the pace high. Likely affecting Alaphilippe the most and some of it was likely directed at Rogla. To test him out. No way for breakaway to make it today. On Puerto de Herrera while Harper still pacing Alaphilippe decided to give it a try. Then the dynamics went up a notch. Rogla isolated but no way anybody is riding away. Descending was not for the faint of heart either. In final climb Rogla was really good today. In regards to positioning and getting through a couple of bottlenecks. Sitting down when he came at front. Beautiful tactics. Sprinter material. Pedersen launching but no match for Rogla stomp. Classy Rogla in Basque. I caught something in the corner of my eye as it was tearing. As for Remco i must hand it to him. When he climbed out of the bucket i thought to myself now he got some balls.

Chapeau!

If that was an ice bucket, something tells me he will not have any balls. :D
