Consistency comes with age. Power comes with age. He was not in good form in CSS so clearly not in his early season form. So for me it's perfectly understandable that he was not having the best moment. Maybe the first three days on flat roads took more out of him, maybe he doesn't cope with rest days very well yet. Lots of possible reasons and potential explanations. Not sure what mood i have to be in to make some sense.
yes, must have cost Masnada the win today.Hopefully QS doesn't waste resources in order to get Alaphilippe into a good position anymore as he clearly is off form. Suffering in Tour de l'Ain, suffering in the TTT, and today half a minute down on a finish where he would normally finish top 2.
Not sure why Mas is a surprise on such a finish, just look at Vuelta 2021 Stage 11.
Masnada + 20 mins+45 Nibali
Making a cushion.Masnada + 20 mins((((
Where is the legend Fausto Masnada?
Ok, so he was sick in San Sebastian and not the day after. Got it.Or maybe he was sick.
The other explanations really don't seem particularly likely to me. The first three days were really easy. He won a race the day after San Sebastián, so I don't really know how that shows his form is gone.
Or could it be he's 19 and not as consistent yet as other pros?

Only the Dutch stagesWas the checkered red jersey only for the TTT stage?
Coquard did win on that steep finish in Bessèges, but that was against a weaker field, and he stands no chance today.
Van Wilder did great today. Looks like he'll have to forgo his own chances for a bad Alaphilippe again. Where the F were Masnada and Devenyns? The QS support cast was bad overall today. When the peloton was down to about 80 riders, Remco only had Van Wilder for support (and Ala who was going for own glory). No wonder Remco was badly positioned even though Van Wilder did his best.
TGH eleventh on the stage and now fifth on GC.
