Consistency comes with age. Power comes with age. He was not in good form in CSS so clearly not in his early season form. So for me it's perfectly understandable that he was not having the best moment. Maybe the first three days on flat roads took more out of him, maybe he doesn't cope with rest days very well yet. Lots of possible reasons and potential explanations. Not sure what mood i have to be in to make some sense.

Or maybe he was sick.

The other explanations really don't seem particularly likely to me. The first three days were really easy. He won a race the day after San Sebastián, so I don't really know how that shows his form is gone.

I wonder what was wrong with Higuita today. In the end, he didn't really lose time but he never fought for a good position before a finish where he could have won. After his team had reeled in the peloton, probably for him.

Hopefully QS doesn't waste resources in order to get Alaphilippe into a good position anymore as he clearly is off form. Suffering in Tour de l'Ain, suffering in the TTT, and today half a minute down on a finish where he would normally finish top 2.

The QS support cast was bad overall today. When the peloton was down to about 80 riders, Remco only had Van Wilder for support (and Ala who was going for own glory). No wonder Remco was badly positioned even though Van Wilder did his best.

If anybody was sick guys it was Fausto Masnada, he is finishing at the last grupetto on a stage where he should compete for win , I can't understand what is going on

After Vuelta Burgos Fausto said he still had some physical problem haunting him, but if this is the case I don't know why Quickstep deceuninck bring him to Vuelta? We are talking about a guy who was in Lombardia last year the 2nd best rider in the world for a day

According to cyclingnews result,

Kuss was still in the group placed with 0 seconds
Yates came in on a slight gap on kuss and that costs him 7 seconds.
Ayuso was also in that group, so seems like he copes better with short short interval/sprints compared a to sligtly longer endavour.

Remco was very bad positionned, don't think i saw him on the screen in the leadup of the sprint.

Van Wilder did great today. Looks like he'll have to forgo his own chances for a bad Alaphilippe again. Where the F were Masnada and Devenyns?
