Year 1 Month 5 1st-28th May
Looks like other things have been happening while my attention has been on the Giro. Hessmann and Paret-Peintre minor are our top scorers from the Giro, but Derek Gee was eligible and would have been top scorer this month and (perhaps inevitably) second in the year to date. Stage winner Davide Bais was also eligible but unpicked. But the one who is ahead of him is already making the three teams that lack him look like they will struggle.

Standings
The riders on Ludwigzgz' team seem to have mainly been sat watching the Giro: falling from 1st to tenth is rare, even at the early stage of a game. Joelsim came 3rd this month, having already been second, so steps up, but the two teams outscoring him in May each take 5 place moves through the top ten.
Is there any way back for the Gregoire-less trio of Greenedge, Hfgon and Redhead Dane?

It's weird. I felt super good with my choices but I'm so low in the standings. I guess it's because everybody have such similar squads but I missed out on Penhoet.
Your problem might be with the fact that you have choices that are expected to be good, and therefore are popular. Apart from Leonard, anyone that you have that does well is going to be beneficial to a number of teams that are above you already. But it is too early to give in yet: at least you have Gregoire.

Take in mind that this update is until 28 may... All my 3 teams (21-23, 22-24 & 23-25) scored a good amount of points with Tour of Norway GC, and this 23-25 team will benefit also from Lenny & Lennert points at MercanTour classic.

@Anderis to have a popular team is not a bad thing... I always had a rather popular team and most of the years my teams do well in this game. The key is consistency, to have a lot of the top performers - and as less as you can of the no-performers (obvious innit?)
Anyway, year 1 results almost never are a good indicator of how the team will perform during the 3 years.

I'm not a newbie to similar types of games and I know that having a popular team is not a bad thing and actually being low in popularity rankings is more often a predictor of failure than success.
Nonetheless it's kinda weird how I feel that most of my riders are performing really well, yet I'm in bottom half of the standings. It's not a thing I've ever experienced in other games. I guess the best picks were just very obvious for this game.

My Irish squad is really letting me down at the moment. Still I did forecast a banner year for Ireland so I should get a percentage of Dunbar's and Healy's success.
Can't say I'm too happy about my Irishman either. Archie Ryan has had a total of zero race days this season due to knee problems.

But we're both less than a monument win from 1st place, so when he wins Lombardia in 2025, we'll be fine!

Standings
Neither Joelsim nor SafeBet has Alec Segaert, which allowed Devil's Elbow to overtake both of them and assume pole position. Whether that, or any other inclusion or oversight, is the one that really matters will be resolved over the next 2 1/2 years.

Still plenty of movement, and opportunity for future movement, in a tightly condensed table.

Spreadsheet

I think the only rider selected for this game who will be starting the Tour is Matthew Dinham. Looks like we will have to glean our July points elsewhere.

Sorry it has been a while since the last update (end of the Tour would have been a good opportunity to do it, but it passed me by)
Also note that the points are to 20th August: CQ didn't put up an update for 27th, and I won't have as much time if I wait until next weeks. So some point inclusions that you may have expected by now are missing.

Year 1, Month 8b-9 (21 Aug - 1O Oct)

Jackson (272) and Zanoncello (207) were the glaring collective misses this moth, but given that most of their points came from Taihu Lake, whether they will prove expensive misses by the end of 2025 is far from certain. But of those that we did pick, the best scorers are:

I disagree, imma win this thing without Penhoet

Anyway, I obviously regret not having him in my team, he was my last discard alongside Archie Ryan I believe. I knew he would farm points in the french calendar but didn't struck me as a winner in his u23 stage so I went for younger guys in a high risk/ high reward bet. Can't be mad, so far most of my guys are progressing well, the one I'm more concerned with is Herzog, hope he's ready for WT next season but I have my doubts.

Btw, so far the major regret I have is not taking Max Poole, also one of my last discards.

Btw, I'm already preparing my 24/26 team... I made a prelist of 30 riders that will give me headaches to make it just 18... So I was following those riders in the last races to see if someone goes over the limit, and in Langkawi I've sufferet a big disappoinment with a good result of a rider I like a lot (which seems crazy, I know) because it means I won't take him in any emerging game.

The rider is Pablo Castrillo, in 2022 he was the best u23 rider in the spanish amateur calendar, but I didn't think he would be doing so great and making big results from the start of his pro career (having almost 0 experience at international level) so decided to sit and wait 1 year... Big mistake. The lad looks awesome, and also is kind of a late bloomer, as he wasn't a smoking hot talent as a junior. Also, without results at u23 UCI level and not being in the WT, I believe he would have been a very interesting rare pick.

His older brother Jaime was also very good, but sadly ended his career last year for mental health issues, so just for a handfull of months they couldn't be together in the same team.

Year 1, Month 10 2nd to 22nd October, so a very short month, but rounds off the season (and I have more time this week than I will next)

Not a lot, but winning a WT event in year 1 is not to be sneezed at.

Essentially, the end of Year One positions: 1/3 of the game gone, but probably only about 1/4 of the points.

4 of the top 5 at this stage are the top 4 in the popularity of pick ranking, and the Collective Wisdom team is pretty high up. Maybe we are as a group getting better at this (the Collective Ignorance team remains out front, but that is not unusual at this stage).

Interestingly, none of the top-4 (the only teams running ahead of the Collective Wisdom team, just like last edition things have been relatively predictable so far) have Morgado (or Christen for that matter) which means there's still ample opportunity for those a little further back, starting with Fivezzz in fifth who has Morgado (as well as Pithie, who is not on any of the other teams in the top-10 and could therefore be the gamechanger), and Nakazar in seventh who has both. In any case, this one should stay close between quite a few teams for a while.

Year 1, months 11 & 12
Alex Baudin had points from earlier in the year removed because of his tramadol "issues", meaning that 6 teams each lose 16 points, but no positional change.
The teams affected are:
Devil's Elbow
DJSprtsch
Hfgon1
JonEzeitza
Jpettersen
Laarsland

The nearest to anything else of significance is that Paul Daumont got enough points in the course of winning the Tour de Faso that he is out of the running for the 2024-26 edition (you are all working on your teams for that, aren't you?), so the wait for the first Burundian rider to be selected goes on...

Some rider scores over the next few days, probably.

That's a total of 7719, so our leader Devil's Elbow has 65.2% of that. The Collective Ignorance team resumes its habit of leading after Year One, after last year's set of selections that had very few omissions sent it down to 25th.

Only in the 2022-24 were year 1 scores higher: with no 1000+ scorers like De Lie and Ayuso there is no getting near to last year's numbers, but the previous record of 4687 wouldn't crack the top 5 this time.

Nine riders that we selected failed to gain a point in 2023, and two reasonably popular picks were in single figures. 69 of them would still be available for this year's game, including 3 of the Collective Wisdom team.

Here's the spreadsheet.
