Almeida teams have been ahead of those that feature Roglic for a while, now he is not only better value for his cost, but gaining more points.
I'd be interested to hear from the Almeida teams (especially those without Roglic, whether they actually expected him to be higher than the Slovenian, or was it simply a belief that Evenepoel would win, and 3rd place + nearly 600 extra in the budget seemed a better deal than second place points.
I didnt spend too much on any one guy because of Covid. Without that I probably would have spent the money on Roglic. But i wanted to spread out the GC potential.

Stage 17

Is there an issue with PCS this evening? I can get it on my phone but not my laptop. Luckily the points today are fairly simple, with very little GC movement, so I'll do it manually, but this could be a problem later...

No selected riders had negative points today. I don't think I remember that ever happening before in these games.

No teams, therefore, are in the red today, but 13 still didn't add to their total. Redhead Dane is top scorer for the third nime in four stages, but it still doesn't do much for her position.

Yesterday's problems were due to a "size of a request header field exceeds server limit" problem. Cleared my cookies, seems ok now.
Stage 18
It looks increasingy as though we have all (perhaps especially those who went for Geoghegan Hart) made a rather fundamental error in a rider who is going to end up leading a probably very strong Collective Ignorance team.

Standings
For a few stages now, the only team that looked to have any chance of replacing Peixotini at the top was Bminchow. However, he has finished last on the daily scores on both stage 18 and 19, and one of the three riders that is on Bminchow's team but not Peixotini's is Carthy, who has of course now DNFed. Titan, who has Buitrago, is now the Derek Gee of our game, having moved into 2nd place everywhere possible.
Evans is the Best had a good day, and makes a late top 10 appearance because of it.

The top three do not have Roglic, the next 8 do. If Roglic were to win the stage and the jersey today, and there were no other changes, then TRiley would move into second, but the places from 5th to 11th wouldn't change.

The stage points today will be interesting, whether there is anything of interest in the GC is another matter.

Congrats to Peixotini. That was a rather dominant performance. Thanks to Armchair for hosting the game again this year.

I can't really complain about how my trio of Roglic/Almeida/Buitrago performed. If Thomas hadn't gobbled up all the pink jersey points and/or the favorites had contested more stage wins and gotten more points that way, my team might have threaten the top a little more. There's always next year (or in our case as CQ managers, the next GT).

As I said yesterday would be the likely result of Roglic taking stage and pink, TRiley (the only manager bringing all 8 men to Rome) moves into second.
Peixotini moved into the lead in both categories after stage 4, when his (joint) rarest pick, Paret-Peintre, took the win, and hasn't looked back since. He will be sipping prosecco through the first half of tomorrow's stage.
With both Matthews and Dainese very capable of scoring stage points tomorrow, there is a strong chance that Redhead Dane might not come last...

And so it is all done

Stage 21
I'm sure Cavendish will remember fondly his (final?) GT stage win, but when one looks at the riders behind him, this was maybe not his greatest acheivement. Nor was it the sort of point availability many 0f us were expecting when we selected our teams.

Standings
Final positions, so everybody gets listed.
Although large daily scores are possible (theoretically 175 points), so the lead had not been mathematically secured, but it has been in little doubt for some time, and only Riverside really seems to have had much positional movement in the last several stages, nipping in with Dainese at the last to take a podium spot. The presence of DJW, Laarsland, Josedin and ArchieBoy in the top ten at least means there is some justification in runnng this as a minor classification.
Samu Cuenca was top on the day, but that does not manage to move him out of last place: his scorers today, Fiorelli and Dainese, are the only riders on his team to have made a top ten appearance.

Rufs and Rote Laterne are split on the principle of a lesser reliance on one rider being favoured (Evenepoel wasn't there for long, but two stage wins put him 4th in the stage points among the riders). With Berlus and Kazistuta I had to bring in another tiebreak as their point scoring riders were identical: of the riders that they did not share, Berlus's best positioned was Gibbons in 14th in stage 2, but he was pipped by Kazistuta's pick of Williams in 12th in the final stage (part of the Team GB secondment to Astana for the day?), so Kazistuta gets that coveted 17th place.

8 teams chose Jonathan Milan: 7 of them are in the top 8 in this classification, with Riverside being the interloper, and Bonimenier the one lacking backup for Milan's sprint points.

Peixotini wins with 7 of his 8 riders picking up at least one top ten (Kamna was 11th twice), which was matched by Riverside (Riccitello, 11th once) and Laarsland (Haig, 14th), but Comodoro, although he finished in the final third in this classification, named 8 men all of whom got at least one top ten placing.

So congratulations to Peixotini, who has worn the virtual, strangely-named, purplish jersey for this classification since stage 4. Or would have been if he weren't wearing another jersey...

Pink points
Even sprint stages normally have something more to contribute to the game, but this was a rather damp squib to end a sodden Giro. No pink or KoM points, small change in the sprint classification, and nothing in GC until you get down to 38th.
So few points I may as well put them all up

Final Standings
Unsurprisingly, very little change anywhere near the top. A bit of a shocker at the foot of the table, where Redhead Dane's randomiser has not put her in last place.
I'm going to claim best riser of the day for myself. What do you mean I haven't mentioned that metric for the last three weeks?
Search's reliance on his 3rd higest scorer, Groves, against the more equal contributions made by Del's scorers, determines the final spot in the top 20.

To those who say that this was a boring Giro, it wasn't as boring as the dominance of this game by one manager. A consistent start, a boost to the top by Paret-Peintre's stage win, and Roglic's lack of stage points and pink jersey bonuses that made him a race winner that one could afford to be without, such that Almeida is more of a feature in the top teams than the Slovenian.

But that is a massive winning margin, so well done to Peixotini who put together a team in which everybody scored more than 100 points (Titan was next best in that regard with 6 out of his 8). Congratulations also to TRiley and to Titan for filling out the podium.

I'll do some number crunching later (I still have Ride London results to process for the Women's Game), but until then, it is I believe 4 weeks today that the prices will be set for the Tour de France game, so get working on your longlists for that.

Went from 31st to finish 13th in the end during the final week. A decent late surge, much thanks to a strong Pinot in the 3rd week.

Shame with TGH, but it wasnt meant to be.

Congratulations to the winner and thanks to @Armchair cyclist for arranging the game!
You were the highest placed of the Geoghegan Hart teams. If you had put your Ineos eggs into the Geraint Thomas basket instead, you would have been 2nd (and with 70 points to upgrade one of your minor riders to claw back the 44 points you would still have been adrift of Peixotini).

My overall goal was to either win or lose, so it's like getting a big box of eggs thrown in my face to win the last stage, although I still managed to defend last in the purple points ranking.

Congratulations to Peixotini for winning and to AmisVelo for losing, and as always a big thank you to Armchair cyclist for putting in the work.

So, what to extract from that?

Top scoring riders
As mentioned by (I think) Netserk in the main game thread, this is probably the smallest number of points ever taken by the winner in a GT: few stage and leader points, and a modest appearance in the minor classifications.

Congratulations Peixotini, great picks, and thanks AC for running the game!

DNFs for Vlasov, Groves and Carthy certainly didn't help my cause but it's some feat to pick 6 of the top 15 on GC plus Ciclamino and multiple stage winners! Chapeau.

When the final sprint started, I already expected Milan to be out of contention, because he was too far back. But this guy is ridiculously fast! He reminds me of the young Marcel Kittel.
