It occurs to me that the composition of the breaks shapes the nature of today’s race. If a rider or two who posed even a minimal threat they probably wouldn’t be given 10-12 minutes or whatever. And if they kept them close and got within reach of catching them it could at least animate some riders/teams with possibly they could still catch them for the stage win. But with such a huge gap it eliminates any incentive to attack from the peloton.
