the French womens road race seems to have shredded to pieces already, gaps to riders all other the place, and we've still got another 85km to go

Similar to the Dutch women's race, where Van Vleuten and Vollering were ahead with 110 k (!) to go. They've been caught though, by a reduced peloton.

They're currently live. But it's the NOS, so that means first half an hour talking about cycling rather than showing the actual race.
I see it now. As you say, just nattering in a studio. And not even at the finish like last year so there was something more interesting in the background while listening!

Front group in France has around a minute to a group with Cordon-Ragot.

Please note that I am using the term "group" very loosely.

Is the hope high for the brothers? Next gc/classic candidates from Ireland? Sean kellyish?

The older brother, Darren, is regarded a very big prospect. Won a million junior races in France at 17, won the U23 Strade at 18, came second in the Baby Giro at 19, etc. You can never guarantee that a great age group rider will be a great pro but he certainly has all the right indications. The younger brother, Adam, has just joined the junior ranks and is a much less known quantity.

Nice 3-man TT competition in Italy between Magli-Rota-Battistella, Trentin-Baroncini-Sobrero and Conca-Garosio-Fiorelli going on. About 40 seconds advantage for the first three.

Small gaps in Italy. Not sure where anyone is.

(I'm watching on mute, and the Italian commentators doesn't help me much anyway.)

Splitting up in the Netherlands. Rooijakkers attacking with Bredewold following and then continuing the attack on the descent.

In retrospect, Sonny, Nizzolo and the lot who never wore their tricolore due to being European champ. at the same time wasn't so bad compared to any of these three.
so if Wiebes wins she wont get to wear the national jersey for a few months at least ?

Wiel, Berteau, and Demey has around 50 seconds to a DSM-lead chase group.

Rota solo in front with 25 seconds to a small-ish-medium-sized chase group.
