2023 Women's WT CQ Game

Page 6 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
This game only counting points from WT races really changes the team building strategy in a way I did not fully appreciate when building my team. You cannot focus on young riders projecting improvement, as WT race rosters tend to be primarily established riders. Oh well, still glad I signed on to this as it will help me learn the women’s scene.

We'll take a sounding at the end of the year as to whether a World Tour only or all races competition is better: I have prepared a spreadsheet based on overall scores and it's not as bad as I had feared. The lack of a downloadable spreadsheet apart from about 4 times a year (judging by past records at CQ) means there is a fair bit of mechanistic copying and pasting, but it is doable.

I don't want to post it too often, as teams were constructed and selected on the basis of WWT races only*, so I think that should remain the main competition (and because of aforementioned tedious copying and pasting), but maybe every couple of months...

* Apart, apparently, from T Riley's

I hope I didn’t come off as unhappy with the format of the game, and I did know it was WT racing only. No excuses, I simply didn’t account for how much that makes this game different from the men’s game. I just want to be clear that I greatly appreciate the time and energy you have put into making this game happen. No complaints from me. Thanks for your hard work.

I'm starting to regret that I didn't pick another rider that could do well in these sort of races or at least ride them.
It doesn't help that three of those I do have are on the same team.

Yea, my team would have Lilibeth Chacón in it if all races counted not because of high potential but just for cheap and almost guaranteed profit, she got an injury last year but crushed all life on earth in Latin America from 2017 to 21 and most of her rivals from that time - Aranza Villalón, Miryan Núñez, Jennifer Ducuara, Carolina Vargas, Anet Barrera - have moved up to Europe or North America.

Strade Bianche next Saturday, but I hope to post something that may be of interest before that.
In the meantime, the spreadsheet.

Josedin is the one most notable for being better positioned in the real game, and therefore possibly more WWT focused in the selection process, than most.

I would have less points in all races then in just the WT races? :confused:

With my non existent knowledge of the women peloton I managed to pick the pregnant and thus non-racing Van den Broek-Blaak, the risky Vos whos injury also impacts her road season and the now injured Cavalli.

No one picked Pieterse, as there was no indication she would race on the road and now she races Strade as opposed to van Empel who everybody expected to be there.

My team
BREDEWOLD Mischa - support rider
FISHER-BLACK Niamh - support rider
GEORGI Pfeiffer - Maybe?
PERSICO Silvia - Come on Silvia!! I love you Silvia, I love you.
RIVERA-LABECKI Coryn - Team lead but can she handle this? I have no idea. I am an amateur.

Good luck all!

Still waiting for CQ to put up full results, but:
140 for 3 Vollering teams (DJSprtsch, Libertine Seguros and Rufs);
84 for 4 teams with Kopecky (DJW, JonEzeitza, Josedin, Rufs again)
73 for 3 Faulkner teams (LeadBelly, LukasCPH, Samu Cuenca)
63 for Uttrup (Jumbo Visma Fan, Libertine Seguros(again), RedHead Dane)

So Rufs and LS look likely to gain most.

It may well be that having the top four on more than one team each might be as well as we do collectively on any race.

I have been forgetting to post the Interforum challenge scores. I hope that this will continue into future CQ games, but I fear not:
VeloRooms 349
CN Forum 339

Ronde van Drenthe next Saturday. I guess that this will be one of the races that those of us who are using the game to explore the women's side of the sport (rather than to put knowledge that we think we have to the test) have paid little attention to. But maybe a bit more now.

I should have picked Maike van der Duin, damn. Was so close to doing that.

By the way, what is that thing Canyon did with the photos? They all look like they must now be about 70 years old, because the pictures were taken in the 70s. Actually it looks like they are dead now and the photos are carried in people's purses to remember them. :eek:

Looks like they used a photobooth at the railway station, but some of them didn't close the curtain properly.
