2024 Giro CQ Game

Page 2 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
My guess is that teams with Pogacar will all be well into the top half of the table, and probably only a small proportion of non-Pog teams will be among them, but that it will be a non-Pog that wins.
But what do I know...

@sam6 (or anyone else): I am happy to stick your alternative team into the spreadsheet, but not include it in the competition, so that I can tell you how it would have done.

So with a little over 26 hours to go (race starts, and game closes, at 13:55 CET on Saturday) we have 16 teams in so far (I believe I have acknowledged and confirmed them all, so if you haven't had acknowledgement, it might be worth re-sending)

48 different riders have been selected (so despite Redhead having already sent in a team, there are still 128 potential unique picks out there):
3 of them tie as the most popular at the moment on 10 teams each, while 27 are unique picks;
12 different riders costing more than the average allowance per rider of 437.5 have been selected, including 2 over 1000 points, one of whom is a heck of a lot more;
9 riders have been included at a cost of less than 100 points, but only their managers could say whether they are purely makeweights or whether they are thought of as great bargains;
Only one manager has spent exactly 3500 points, and two have underspent by over 100;
4 teams vying for the highest popularity ranking, at >85% of the highest possible, and two with less than half of that maximum.

And so far all teams sent in perfectly formatted (for which I am grateful) and with only one correction needed (a rider who was expected to compete but didn't make the final cut).

But all this is really just an excuse to bump the thread: I'd like to see twice that before we get going. Don't forget.
Instructions, if you need them, in the OP.

My team has not been acknowledged so far.

Funny thing, the same happened to me in the main CQ game this year, but it was skidmark forgetting to send me a message, not any message delivery issues.

I'll re-send you my team once more just in case.

Technically, it's the first time that you have re-sent it, but...

I should also have said that if you get your team in earlier, I have a better chance of checking that it is all OK. We have had issues in the past of riders selected twice in the same time, too many in a team, over-budget selections or riders not in the event named. I have a default way of making replacements, but I would rather that you have time to select your own replacements if necessary.

Still an hour or so if you haven't sent in your team yet ( @Devil's Elbow ? @Jumbo Visma Fan :) ? @Ricco' ? @Riverside ? @LosBrolin ? @Muddy_Waters ? @Ruvu ? and probably others.

37 teams now, plus 4 that I have appended as "I have sent in my team, but what if I had done this group instead" selections, usually for those who were very split on whether or not to feature Pogacar.
Any preferences as to whether I put them, unranked, at the bottom like the Collective Wisdom team, or just leave them in the Spreadsheet for those who are interested to have a look as they wish, and maybe comment if I notice that they have done something remarkable?

Ifanyone else also has a discarded combination that you want tracked, by all means send it in.

I'm going to go for a ride, so don't expect any notifications of the teams until about halfway through the stage.

Life’s been busy so honestly I forgot to do it for the Giro. Will definitely do it for the Tour, as school is almost over.

It looks like it is going to be 2 games in one: A battle between the Pogacar teams (who of necessity are differentiated only by riders with mainly limited ambitions), another between those who don't have him, and then the matter of which strategy will win out. My guess is that all eleven Pogacar teams will be in the top half, but there will be someone who has enough points spread among their top 4 or 5 riders on budget (though maybe not those with Arensman or Bardet) to take the overall.

Maybe.

Pogačar is already behind schedule, which is good for the rest of us.

The teams
37 of them in the end: thanks to all for joining in.

*** Not actually selected by BitB, but I had not initially picked up on his named rider Martinelli not being in the race, and he never came back to me to make a counter-proposal.
Josedin's team, initially enormously over priced, went throuth several iterations, but we got there eventually.
