To EitB,
Hermano looks like we are down to Leemreize vs Pickrell. Good luck to you, hope to see you on the podium.
BitB
I had half expected some Pogacar teams to be identical, because of limitations of choice of the other 7. I could see that there weren't any, but not surprised to see such a high correlation, even if I wouldn't have necessarily have predicted it to be from within the Itb household.

I hope to get a team similarityy tab done on the spreadsheet, but probably late tonight.

If points are equal, the first criterion is of least reliance on one rider (so the highest scoring non-shared rider is a disadvantage), but that can't be a factor where 7 riders are shared, so the second criterion is placing in GC of the first different rider outside the top 50 (so the one who is closest to having more than 'mere' finishing points. After that, it would have to be longest the longest surviving DNF stayed in the race. I suppose if, for example, Pickerell and Leemreize were to drop out in the same crash and there is no evidence as to which of them rode on farther, we would have to call a draw. But in most daily updates, I probably won't bother with any tiebreakers outside the top ten.

and there should be 31 unique picks in the table above, with 71 of the 176 riders being relevant to the game.

Popularity ranking
For new players (welcome to Harad, Shakes and BartalliCoppi), this shows how often your riders were picked: Quintana will give you 27 points here, a unique pick just 1. Sometimes there is a correlation between this and how well a team does, but far from always.

I know you are waiting for results, but I have other stuff to do, so that might be a while yet. Just let the intrigue build...

After seeing today, maybe Pogi won't be as dominant as we all thought! If Narvaez can follow on double-digit gradients and then outsprint him then maybe the other contenders will be able to at least compete with him

We will have a better idea tomorrow!

I'm surprised 10 people decided not to include Quintana at the price of 16. But I guess it could make sense in some cases.

He was obviously in that Colombian/Ecuadorian team I considered, but in the end I went all Italian. I'm quite surprised Piganzoli is a unique pick, although he didn't exactly get off to the best of starts.

Juamnpe López only being on 3 teams is also a shocker, and no one selecting my man Pelayo is just disappointing.

BitB
On top of sharing 7 out of 8 riders, I also want to see myself on the podium so we have that in common as well
:p

More seriously though I'll have fun tracking that Leemreize vs Pickrell battle (and hopefully that battle will matter).

Damned idiot of a brother in law ('civility is compulsory' doesn't apply to extended family, does it?) had a row with staff at mother-in-law's nursing home, backing them into a corner and string of events that mean she's now being sent home after a total red herring of a hospital visit.

Previously, in Italy
Stage 1
Purplish points (I have a long-standing objection to calling that colour 'cyclamen')
This is the minor category in the game: stage points only, but without the weighting in favour of flat stages so it is quite different from the classification in the race itself.

Pink points
This is the main part of the game. GC points, Sprint and KoM classifications, stage points and bonuses for being in pink all added together as though the Giro were finishing now. So it gradually becomes more realistic. What you see here might not be a strong indication of where you will finish up.

and so on down to dozens of riders projected to get 15 points for finishing

Yellow Knight has the stage winner and pink jersey wearer (until a minute ago), but Caruso, Tiberi, Thomas and Martinez mean that Madrazo has a better spread of contributing riders.

You'll have seen by now what happened in stage two: we'll see what it has done to the game sometime this evening, idiot brother-in-law allowing.

Having said I would apply tiebreakers in the top ten, let's do that:
DJW is 5th, as his highest scoring individual (Tiberi) has fewer points than that of the itB twins (better spread of points is rewarded);
Leemreize is 69th as opposed to Pickerell's 175th, so Evans is 6th, and Blues 7th;
Leemreize also is higher than any of the three riders that Googolplex has that Salvarani does not,so Salvarani is 8th and Googolplex 9th.
