He tried to stay with the next best yesterday until he blew.

Following the short bursts should theoretically suit him a bit more but he's done better today riding like a diesel, perhaps changing his profile away from CX to more of a classic GC rider.

Vingegaard is just having fun this season... you could see he enjoyed putting Ayuso in the hurt locker. Fair play to Ayuso though, he really tried.

I am happy that Kämna looks solid. He could be top5 at the Giro.
Uijtdebroeks doesn't look impressive. Not stronger then at Bora at the moment.
Del Toro is really good.

True. Different focus though. Last year he was supposed to be good early season, then take it slow and build up to the Vuelta. Now he is on a slow trajectory towards the Giro.
It's been a turbulent winter for him, that might also have taken its toll. But he looks quite unimpressive so far. Not bad, but certainly not better than last year. You can see he's not satisfied with his level.

He said before Gran Camino that he wasn't "race ready" yet, so i assume there is still plenty of margin to improve. It's really not unusual for young neopro's to start the season in better form and take advantage of the big boys taking it a bit slower, then take a breather and work towards the Vuelta. It doesn't mean much. Two years ago Ayuso was flying early season, last year it was Uijtdebroeks and Poole iirc. This year it's Del Toro and Van Eetvelt. Again, completely different build-up to the Giro, he can't be in great form now and extend that until the third week of the Giro.

Has he been at altitude camp?

I would disagree on Cian, he was pretty steady, not explosive but a solid result Kamna also very good result. Del Toro rode in control and the makeup of the chase screwed Pitcock and company, they chased hard but Del Toro attack was perfect. Hindley very impressive..
