This is like that Mallorcan race last year, but on a much bigger stage for Vallieres. She dropped García there as well.

They're all blowing chunks now; I thought García was looking over her shoulder suggesting the chasers were coming but they're all just as fried as the break was.

Reminds me of Anna Kiesenhofer's win in Tokyo at the 2020 Olympics ...

Seems like not much has changed in Women's cycling
This wasn't a miscounting or miscalculation though. This was the big teams deciding to back odd horses. Vallières isn't a "who?", she was 18th in the Tour and has strong results at a range of one day races. Fisher-Black and García have plenty of palmarès to speak of.

Kiesenhofer was a complete outsider and a shocking miscalculation. This is just a selection being made that was given too much time before the Dutch/French/Italians learned their girls in the break didn't have the legs, and then didn't have enough in the legs to catch it back up.

Am I totally ignorant not knowing the winner before 30km's ago, or is she that much of a surprise?

Super nice victory for her. Don't remember her making any mistakes either in all those dynamics.

To use a new German sports phrase I learned today from the commentators: "She threw a real meatball" at the end.

All true, but looking at Vollering, PFP, and all the others - nobody wanted to ride, they just looked at each other.
If you want to win, you have to take some initiative at some point of the race

But of course, today they knew that there were riders in front of them, not like with Kiesenhofer, when they just forgot about he
