It will be Movistar vs Mitchelton. Alaphilippe is too tired I think, and there's a serious amount of climbing this year. Erlaitz is great addition and I think the race will explode on the Jaizkibel/Erlaitz combo. After that the numbers will be really important. The race could easily go in favor of attackers, but if favorites reach the bottom of the last wall together I think it will be between Valverde and the Yates bros.

I wonder if UAE will have resolved whatever problem they had at the tour... I suspect a week isn't enough time to reverse the damage that was done (according to the riders)
Martin said after Val Thorens that he was happy to have his “best day of the Tour” that day (19th), so maybe the improvement already started.

On the other hand, he said in all the previous days he got tired as the stage wore on, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the shortest stage went well. And 19th was still well off the pace.

I dont mean to be too excited, but finally a rider from Finland makes it into professional cycling scene. Since I have only been around for about 2 years now it is more than welcome that finally I get too root for a rider from my home country. I dont know much about him. Rides for AG2R.

Was he riding the tour? They were talking about Finland a lot on 'the move' podcast.

Jaakko Hänninen it is. U23 bronze medalist from Innsbruck last year. Rode the race without team-mate help since Finland had only one spot there.

He looked very strong in that race. I think he already has a win at 2.1 level, some small stage race in France he won last year despite not being a pro yet. A good prospect, although probably not ready to be very noticeable at a race of this caliber yet.

Sounds like you missed them but Jussi Veikkanen and Kjell Carlstrom were around until a few years back and both rode for top level teams.
