Jaakko Hänninen it is. U23 bronze medalist from Innsbruck last year. Rode the race without team-mate help since Finland had only one spot there.

He looked very strong in that race. I think he already has a win at 2.1 level, some small stage race in France he won last year despite not being a pro yet. A good prospect, although probably not ready to be very noticeable at a race of this caliber yet.

If you take a look of his Strava segments from Innsbruck, they were on par or better at the end of his race w/ the very top of mens race: Pinot, Kwiat, De Marchi, Vallgren etc. On par or better of some ToA segment times. Interesting to see how he evolves. Maybe not that special just now coming from recovery period after a bad crash accident.

FInd it sad when they make the routes for classics harder and harder.

How so? Gear, technology, medical treatment, science, training... everything gets better. Trainers know better how to get the best out of cyclists, without pushing them over the limit. When and how to schedule rest periods etc etc. It only makes sense these guys aren't riding the same races as 30 - 40 years ago. Bikes weigh half as much, they race less days a year, they get state of the art supervision, everything is monitored...

Kinda disappointing Nibali isn't riding this. I think he would have had a good shot and possibly had made things more interesting with a move from further out
If he doesn't rest right away, the season is certainly over, unless you mean it will be over anyway and might as well race, which is totally possible.

Somebody fresh from the Tour, so I'd say nobody from the high GC placings, apart maybe Valverde.

I don't mind it, San Sebastian was always tough, but to have a good race, they should have got rid of the muro in the end. This way, personally I don't think it will make much of a difference. I'd be surprised if it doesn't end up in a waiting game till the final ascent

I dont mean to be too excited, but finally a rider from Finland makes it into professional cycling scene. Since I have only been around for about 2 years now it is more than welcome that finally I get too root for a rider from my home country. I dont know much about him. Rides for AG2R.
Sounds like you missed them but Jussi Veikkanen and Kjell Carlstrom were around until a few years back and both rode for top level teams.

Yeah I know about them but never saw them race.

Considering that he's touring Europe for criteriums and riding (even if fake) one day in the Nederlands and the following in Austria like on Tuesday and Wednesday is all but rest maybe San Sebastián would have been a better choice even if I'm not sure he cares about this race, he never performed here and rode it last time in 2010.

Muros should bever be the Final climb, rather penultimate

Sporza said he injured his face with his lawnmower (no further description). But it turns out, it was a tractor, and he hit his head against the steering wheel.

He should name his tractor "Gianni".
