Well duh, he started his sprint at the foot of the Cauberg. When Gilbert goes you need to be in the top 5. Crashes are a poor excuse.

How the **** being positioned on the wheel of the winner is poor ? ( Nordhaug & Cunego )

but if you ride too much in the front 5 of the amstel gold race you'll die because you'll be riding too much in the wind. There is almost no cover from it on south limburg 1-lane roads...

Boogerd said that he rode top15 the entire day when he rode AGR. I guess that if he never did that he would've won it 5 times.

ofcourse, boogerd rode too much in the wind anyway. He nearly always initiated the attacks in the final and then there was always 1 faster in the sprint because again he started it himself. If he rode more out the wind he could've won more than Raas

Didn't Rodriguez start his sprint as early last year too?

There were only 10 people last year

And he didn't start as early. Besides, everyone knows Phil isn't as good as in 2011, but he was still good last Sunday.

Please, can you all keep your Andy Schleck, Contador and whatever bashing to their respective threads. Please, can we keep the race threads thrash free. It's getting very annoying.

Actually, gonna start a topic about it in the mod corner.

How lame, hope Phil won't ride for him at the Tour.

He's got to do something to justify his contract surely

You need good team support to win good races. He's not getting that at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He can always ride for him self at the Tour. Why would he bother helping someone who doesn't want to help him?

Ok guys back on topic. The AGR race and that's it. No need to discuss whether or not Gilbert should work for Evans during the tour.

Did vanendert say anything about his sprint and if he was surprised with the result, or disappointed? How come wegman ended so high?

He was disappointed to lose, but was still glad he got a good result. I don't think he was surprised. He did say FW suits him better though.

Wegmann is a rider for hilly races. Nothing suprising about him in the top 10 when there's such a big group at the last hill.
He's very inconsistent though.

He had plenty of top 10/top 15 finishes in hilly classics and even top 10 finishes in lombardia (+podium)

My main memories of Wegmann are somehow winning the Giro mountains jersey despite getting dropped on nearly every major climb, and pulling the greatest pain face when getting dropped by Bettini in Lombardia :D

He got in breaks in stages 1, 3, 6, 10, 11, 16, 18 and 19, and led the péloton to the GPM sprint in stage 4. He really earnt that jersey (he only scored points on 2 cat.1 climbs and no MTFs - 1st on Valparola and 2nd on Mortirolo - and everything else was in 3s and 5s).

My main memory of him is his sprint from fully 500m out at the Rund um Frankfurt in 2010 and the incredible cry of joy at the win.

I am a fan of his; he's a good hilly guy. Not good enough to win in a straight fight, but as a result he often tries something else, like trying to attack from a distance at Flèche Wallonne etc.

You don't win the GP Big Mig, the Rund um Frankfurt, Tre Valli Varesine or the Sachsen-Rundfahrt, or podium Eroica and Lombardia and top 10 the Stüttgart and Varese World Championships, without some half-decent climbing chops.

He's been on the fringes of the top 10 in the Ardennes classics for some time, although he's had a lean year with Leopard.
