but if you ride too much in the front 5 of the amstel gold race you'll die because you'll be riding too much in the wind. There is almost no cover from it on south limburg 1-lane roads...

Gilbert was constantly in the top 10.

Well, I've seen Jelle near the front pretty often yesterday.

EDIT: I think he meant you have to be near the front in the decisive part of race ie in the last 50km

No he wasn't constantly in the top 10. I even have the footage to back it up since I recorded the race.
He was constantly in the top 10 in the final 20km though. I give him that. But there..you HAVE to.
But if you do it all race long (f.ex the middle part from 150km to go to 50km), you'll waste a lot of energy

With Gilbert not in great shape this was Jrod, Valverde and Gerrans best opportunity to win AGR and they all failed. Enrico Gasparotto deserved it, this race always suited him and he took the opportunity that was given to him. AGR suits him much more than LBL or FW though.

Ofcourse, with his hilly capabilties and good uphill sprint.

I really thought Rodriguez or Gerrans would win though. Kinda suprised they did this badly (finishing between 20-25)

Yeah they could have/should have won it this year. If Gilbert does not have troubles for the years to come it will be much harder for both of them to ever win AGR.
Jrod has to win an ardennes classic this year its his best chance he will ever get.

Were you watching the right one:rolleyes: He had to chase back freire and he was on the front and got no help.

he didn't chase full at all. constantly looking. when he went, which was quite early indeed, but not too early he was followed without much trouble. sagan could've won if he waited longer perhaps

You heard it here first, Sagan went too early, but Phil didn't go too early

He was followed without much trouble, by 3 cyclists.

he would have been followed by a lot more cyclists if Cunego didn't decide to take down Nordhaug and delay the rest of the group

It wouldn't have mattered, we've been reliably informed by several in-the-know Sky fans that Nordhaug would've won anyway.

He defintely had a chance if Gasparatoo won ;) And Nordhaug was right on his wheel when he fell too ;) I think he would got podium or Top 5 though.

Yes, just look at the gap Gilbert created in 2010 and 2011, and Rodriguez did as well in 2011.

Have you seen that situation?

It was never Damianos fault.

Iglinsky is the guilty one. He moved rapidly right and tackled Cunego. Damiano had no time to react on or no space to avoid contact. And why iglinsky moved right because sagan was coming through between him and barrier and there was no space to do that. Maxim should have kept his line or move right smoothly then nothin would have happened. Sry bad english, but I hope you understand something about that.

But I repeat it was never ever Cunego's fault. If you don't believe me you should watch slow motion couple of times.

The crash happened almost at the front and the rider who was leading the charge at that point ended up 6th.

Well duh, he started his sprint at the foot of the Cauberg. When Gilbert goes you need to be in the top 5. Crashes are a poor excuse.

Uh, please elaborate on why crashes are a poor excuse. Cunego and Nordhaug were positioned well at what must have been 500 meters to go.

If you can't see that they were well positioned than there is no point in discussing anything with you.
