Doesn't Taylor Phinney ride it as well?

I'm not sure.. If he does then he will be favourite for the prologue, but
I presumed he would be riding pro events for the Shack till the end of the year.

the uci team is going to be lead by gregory brenes, an amazing talent from costa rica who rode top ten even in vuelta asturias this year.

to me as longas they can keep some sort of controll the colombians will dominate this race in the mountains. especially atapuma and quintana. they are hors category

Alexandre Geniez (France A) will not start in the Tour de l'Avenir. One of the big favorites does not feel in shape and there are found traces of glandular fever in his blood. If he will be replaced is not known.

Dutch selection for the Tour de l'Avenir:

Tom Jelte Slagter
Tom Dumoulin
Wilco Kelderman
Coen Vermeltfoort
Bert Jan Lindeman
Martijn Keizer

I consider Kelderman to be the biggest Dutch prospect in the U23 ranks right now, so I'm anxious to see what he can do. Slagter of course is no slouch either.

Christopher Juul Jensen from Denmark is one to look out for. Riis was recently on Danish TV saying he was thinking of signing him for 2011. He would have won the Coupe des Nations in Canada if it wasn't for a 20 second time penalty.

I rate slagter higher, but kelderman is certainly a talent (only also...). AFAIK he hasn't signed for a pro team yet, which is probably better at his age.

Hoping Martijn Keizer has a good ride to. I think vasc. signed a really good rider here.
Slightly surprised that Jetse Bol didn't get picked.

A bit hard to compare really, but in the long run I expect more of Kelderman, who is only 19 and promising to be a very complete rider (can climb, time trial, and has a decent sprint).

Jetse Bol is missing out on both the Tour de l'Avenir and the U23 Worlds, which is a bit strange to me as well (I mean, he can't climb, but neither can Vermeltfoort).

Surprised to see Taylor Phinney as a reserve for the US team... he posted this recently on Twitter:
Solid 4 hrs today getting lost on the roads around lucca... Form is very very good for Avenir! Might even be able to get over some Cols!
I'm sure he'll get a spot if he wants to, if only to win the prologue?

If Tim Kennaugh does a remotely decent ride I am immediately starting a 'GB's Schleck Brothers' hype train.

He won't this year - but maybe next year or the year after.

Im faintly optimistic that there could finally be a British stage win in Avenir this year. Dowsett ought to be up there in the prologue, while Luke Rowe will hopefully be going strong also.

USA is final

Colorado Springs, Colorado (September 3, 2010) -

The Tour de l'Avenir's history, though varied, has been mainly one as a race for amateurs. In 1981 organizers first allowed professionals to participate. The following year Greg LeMond became the only American to win the overall classification. The race shifted to a U25 format in 1992 before eventually lowering the age range to the current U23.

In 2009, Tejay Van Garderen finished second overall, the highest American finish since LeMond.

Putting the rubber to the road for the USA Cycling National Development Program on Sunday will be:

Ian Boswell (Bend, Ore./BISSELL Pro Cycling Team) — At just 19, Boswell finished third overall at the recent Tour of Utah, where he claimed the Best Young Rider jersey. He also won this year's Nevada City Classic and had two top-10 stage finishes at the Cascade Classic.

Chris Butler (Hilton Head Island, SC/BMC Racing Team) — From a Cat. 5 collegiate freshman in 2007 to finishing the Tour of California this past May, the 22-year-old Butler has had a quick rise to the pro ranks. A climbing specialist, Butler will be one to watch in France.

Alex Howes (Boulder, Colo./Team Holowesko Partners) — In 2009, Howes doubled as the USA Cycling U23 national champion in both the road race and criterium. This year, at 22, he was runner-up at the U23 road nationals to l'Avenir teammate Ben King.

Ben King (North Garden, VA/Trek-LIVESTRONG) — The reigning U23 national champion in the road race and criterium, the 21-year-old King also scored golds at this year's Pan American Games in the U23 road race and time trial.

Taylor Phinney (Boulder, Colo./Trek-LIVESTRONG) — A two-time individual pursuit world champion on the track, Phinney won this year's U23 Paris-Roubaix and the Olympia's Tour in Holland. Only 20 years old, he was recently chosen to ride as a stagiaire for Team RadioShack.

Andrew Talansky (Napa, Calif./Cal Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) — The 21-year-old Talansky had a strong June, finishing second overall at the Volta Tarragona in Spain, winning a stage of the Tour de Pays Savoie, and claiming the USA Cycling U23 Time Trial National Championship.

The prologue is a given, of course. The overall... I'm betting on Darwin Atapuma, the coolest name in the peloton, and a good climber to boot.
