Honorable Ryo is right ...

Phinney went down (just a little), and tried to get back in the bunch 'well this isn't the tour the France', they didn't wait and you saw the result ... Dekker_Tifosi look at the average speed with a lot up and down !

Matthews is more a sprinter than a climber i think

Matthews can climb as shown with a top 5 ride in the ITT up Mt Fuji(?) in Japan, but you are right he is not a mountain goat. Matthews is a strong sprinter with a strong ITT but perhaps more a GC climber I would think. The form of all these riders is good so it will be interesting.

Nice to see Alex Dowsett in yellow. Great guy and a good rider. Can't seem GB trying to defend it though. They'll try and set it up for Luke Rowe.

Looks a great stage tomorrow. It's just a shame we won't get to see it.

Davis De la Cruz of Spain also crashed hard today in the Tour de l'Avenir.

The Caja Rural continental rider went down 10k before stage end. The doctor has had to give stitches in the elbow. Let's see how to spend the night. Tomorrow will be a tough day in the aftermath of the fall, "said coach Ramon Gonzalez Arrieta on the website of the Spanish Federation.

update

Phinney out of the race if it rains tomorrow

7 Sep 2010 ... PHINNEY SUSTAINS MINOR ROAD RASH INJURIES. A RAIN-DRENCHED START TO STAGE 3 ...
http://www.treklivestrongu23.com/

Phinney, who this year has been stagiare with RadioShack announced also his intention of not joining the RadioShack team of Johan Bruyneel because that only provide a one year contract and Phinney confirmed the interest of the BMC and the new team of brothers Andy and Frank Schleck.

Double winner of the Paris-Roubaix Espoirs and only 20 years, has raced the last two years in the Livestrong Trek and even has run this year in the Tour of Denmark with RadioShack as stagiare.

Ryo's opinions about anything are either black or white. Don't make such a fuss about it :)

Since i'm pretty unknown to U23 riders who can we expect today?
Is it hard to tell or are their clear favourites?

Well, Daotec, it 's not really only favourites, now is it? ;) It's often just guys you like and who we need to keep an eye on, now and in the future :p

But really you haven't been really wrong about any of your bolds yet, either due to a surprise about them, or some other reason.

But anyway, does anyone know somewhere where I could find a race report after the race. I won't be able to follow anything today (no racing at all):(

I think all of us will have to do with a post-race report, as there are no tickers or anything for this race. There are links to a few highlights and pictures here.

Favourites for today will probably be the odd Colombian, Eijssen (Bel), Talansky (USA), Slagter (Ned), Rosch (Ger), and I'm hoping for my personal favourite Kelderman (Ned).

Anybody know how Jesús Herrada goes uphill? His brother's pretty good at it (4th in Circuito Montañes, 6th in Vuelta a Asturias, stage win in a less than totally flat stage of the Volta a Portugal), and Jesús was also top 10 in the prologue and 6th in the U23 Euro Champs ITT. If his climbing is the same as or better than his brother he's an interesting prospect.

He won this years Subida a Gorla. A real mountain test for young spanish riders. Guys like Sastre, Garate, Joaquim Rodriguez or Contador won it back in their U23 Times. Combined with his time trialing abilities there is a possible new great spanish all-rounder. We'll see what he can do the next days.

OK. Maybe Peña. But Ardila has been given some oportunities in the Giro and Vuelta. He has done decently, but I don't think he was capable of giving more. Might be the motivation thing.:)

Thanks.

it's purely motivation. ardila was 2 x winner of vuelta juventud and arguably the biggest talent colombia had from generation 1976-1980. also just check how strong he was in 2005, when he was just 25/26.

ivan parra had the same thing although I still liked him, he only rode for money and never or almost never showed his true capacity's only when his contract was either bad or coming to an end like giro 2005 and vuelta 1999

Looking forward to seing Tim Roe and Ian Boswell today, even thoug they don't seem in perfect form. Michael Matthews will lose plenty of time today imo....
