This looks like it is only going one way - but some of the other guys in lead group who arent Gilbert are still working hard. Wouldnt it be better to let it come back together from their team POV ?

I guess he could puncture, hit a dog etc, that's what I keep in mind in a similalry futile (and much slower) situation...
