They don't have radios, right? There's a chance Hoogerland doesn't know exactly how far ahead Leukemans is, so he isn't sure if riding for 3rd is safe or not.

edit: although the alternative theory that he's just too dumb is compelling.

i hope leukemans proves you all wrong even though Phil is my 4th favourite rider behind Evans, TGAK and GvA. ACF always barracks for he under dog.

nah he really had no need to drop leukemans, was never going to lose the sprint. I suspect he knew this.
