Didn't impress me at Milan-San Remo, Dwars door Vlaanderen or Gent-Wevelgem.

But you're saying those races are in a different league comparing to those silly 'Ardennes' races

Matthews has never really impressed in the Ardennes races either. He doesn't even ride LBL.

So he's skipping E3 Harelbeke, the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix to ride the Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne (where he doesn't even stand a chance). I don't know who's deciding his race calendar, but he's wasting a lot of good years riding the wrong races.

But is that better or worse than if he had started on a TT bike? We'll never know
