of course, i love gilbert, but it was more bunched up in the finish.

ya when he attacked i thought "too soon, they haven't even reach the middle of the muur cus there are so many people there" but they were actually like 400 m away from the finishing

Mur wasn't ridden as hard as last year which meant it suited guys like Vino and Gilbert more than JR, CE and AC.
Yup, they needed to go hard from the foot of the climb to keep Gilbert on the back foot but no-one was willing to do the work.

Well... This is progressive of the organisers. Very good of them to put the female presentation in the TV broadcast as well.

Chapeau to them.

Agreed. It's a pity it's so unusual.

Was even closer than that. 350 maybe even.

Vino got 4th
One of the Schlecks was 6th (both were up near the front half way up)
Anton came from way too far back - finished 5th, should have been 3rd at least

Yes, agreed.

There was the early attack by Klöden, and then Anton rode a very high tempo which only Contador could go with.

This year nothing really happened until Gilbert opened up (this was probably the same section Contador went on last year).

But that should take nothing away from the victory, Gilbert took the Mur on where none of the other favourites dared, or were able to.

with respect, you're talking bs. I am not taking anything away from PG, but it's clear it was ridden much different to last year.

agreed, if they wanted to shake gilbert they needed to make the race a lot harder imo...

too bad none of the others dared to do that (or had a domestique to do it for them)

ooh well, great race (the last 3 km that is ;)) and a great winner, good day for cycling...

Gilbert again, The best bike rider in the world by a mile.
Best at what he does, sure, but he's just too limited to be considered the best overall, imo. Best one-day racer, sure - he and Canc can battle for that one, but I can't give the title of best overall to someone who is never a factor in stage races because he can't TT or climb mountains.

Nice bit of closing the door, twice from Gilbert.

Yeah, saw that. Smart move, not that would have mattered.:p

oh yeah did you clock it??

nope, but it is clear amongst many people that it wasn't ridden as hard because of how bunched up it was at the finish and also that a big group was still quite bunched together.

It was incredible, he won the race that was described as too hard for him, he attacked at 15% and no one could follow, even Purito with a teammate... just amazing!
Now he's going to make history on Sunday. I don't know whether there was a rider who won all 3 Ardennes Classics in one year? I guess he must be first one.
