I don't think it had any bearing on the outcome in the end. But the photo moto's were a little close to DvB.

Happy to see Vanmarcke grab a top 10 too.

Impossible to tell, and he was clearly the strongest in the race, but it could have opened up different scenario's. If the gap goes from 15s to 10s instead of 20s... They would be likely to close it. But on the other hand, then the scenario where Laporte jumps out of De Lie's wheel to bridge to Van Baarle and do a duo JV attack could also have been possible in that situation. It's just a pitty it's an issue to begin with.

@Lequack so I was completely wrong, really impressed by De Lie, I didn’t expect him to be that good on such hills. I thought he could do a 7% finish, but De Muur is something completely different.

I saw him climbing in Tour du Gard earlier in the season and he climbed like a madman.

Last year he did something simular in his winning streak when everybody thought he would have to hang on but he was just the strongest on the little cobble climb and closed the gap himself before winning. With his Besseges form I knew he could do this. Insanely strong start of his season.

I'm not necessarily Evenepoel's biggest fan, but I would say he looks quite good on a bike. Van Baarle looked quite skeletal today, a bit too much for my taste. Jumbo does seem to have quite a radical nutrition regime.
From what I've heard of this regime, it's actually not that radical. They just calculate the exact amount every rider needs. Which also means: not too little. Of course a guy like Van Baarle is going to be more skinny than Evenepoel, he's twice as tall and if he had Evenepoel's physique he wouldn't get over a single climb.

3 forum members liked a post which started off by saying you'd consider to not bring Wout van Aert for the classic races. While were at it, might as well make him slave 21 days for Vingegaard the upcoming summer? Great way to please your (probably) biggest star.

He's no Kwiatowski.

strong performance by de Lie, but the way he was brought back looks like a pretty clear DSQ to me

it's amazing what you don't see live in a race. If going by past actions from organisations, eekhoff/nibali etc ...Thats a DQ, and just because evidence is coming out now, doesn't mean you shouldn't act on it.

"de lie = de q"

It's tv footage, so the evidence was there for everyone to see. They did cut away from it though. But yeah, if Eekhoff was a DQ, surely this one is as well. Not gonna happen though.

Honestly if I was Jumbo Visma I would consider no bringing Belgian Pozzato to the cobbles classics.

They have a really strong squad of tactically intelligent riders who work well together. Why bring in Van Aert and get another Leuven situation, he is know to want leadership and is not so strong tactically.
Belgian pundits see this very differently: according to Sporza, now that Van Baarle has his win they can put all their eggs in the Van Aert basket. It's almost insulting how much they underestimate Van Baarle over there. The guy won Roubaix and was 2nd in Flanders last year, they act like he's some kind of also-ran.

yeah I just meant even though i remember that point in the coverage, I didn't clock it. But yeah, I don't want to say it, but you can only put it down to his nationality ...

They are riding like a prime quickstep.

With Laporte, Van Baarle, Tratnik, Benoot, Valter all flying they could seriously win every Northern classic.
They could send Van aert to do GC at Tirreno, do Sanremo, then another altitude camp, Romandie GC and be backup for Roglic in the Giro.

Lol.

Eekhofs DQ was stupid anyways. And Nibali was completely different, he wasn't just drafting. Drafting behind a car to come back after a crash or mechanical happens every day and the jury almost never punishes anyone for it. Hell, just a week ago Burgaudeau attacked by holding on to his teams car and he didn't even get a DSQ. So no, this isn't a DQ if you by past actions from commisaires, they did it once in a u23 race and the guy didn't even deserve it.

Weellllll? Is he a Belgian?
All I can say is the metrics from their collective Tour squad is starting to create a new source of gravity. One that will weigh on the minds of all competitors and their directors that had a team plan to deal with JV.

Congratulations to Dylan van Baarle for taking the win.

Glad to see both Tratnik and Mohorič are in good form. Really strong performance by JV today. It's likely getting a bit crowded. If all team member can win the race.
