The last climb was pretty brutal, wasn't it? Izagirre underestimated it clearly, congrats to Pinot. In the favourites group Martinez as a super-domestique again setting a strong tempo. Remco was going really well...until he wasn't. Brave attack by Higuita, I was cheering for him but obviously tomorrow's TT will be too much for him. Thomas quietly on Fulgsang wheel until he decided to drop the Danish. Again strong finish by G., who is the race favourite now.

Thomas GT top 10s < Meintjes GT top 10s.

TdF top 10 in no particular order:
Pogacar
Roglic
Vingegaard
Mas
Haig
Caruso
O'Connor
Martinez
Yates
Vlasov.

Mark my words - unless I'm wrong, in which case disregard my words.

Thomas has the same amount of GT top 10s as Meintjes but I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Vingegaard, Haig, O'Connor, Martinez and Vlasov all have fewer GT top 10s yet you are saying they will make the top 10 at the TDF.

Meintjes has three, Thomas has two. That is my point - despite his exceptional peak, Thomas often finds a way to not get results in GTs. The fact that the five riders you mentioned have only one less top ten despite being ten years younger than him further illustrates that point.

Thomas finishing 2nd in the Tour one year later with a bad prep (crashimg out of the TdS for example and taking a long time to get into shape) at least makes him less of a fluke winner than Wiggins...

2019 was the weakest TdF in the last 15 years IMO. Kruijswijk in 3rd, only ahead of Buchmann because of the TTT. Frigging Alaphilippe in 5th. Pinot was the best climber until a wtf injury.

In hindsight Jumbo may one day bash their head against the wall they chose to go there with Kruijswijk and Groenewegen because Roglic demanded full leadership.

Today I learned that GT has performed better on climbs since 2018 than during his Tour victory in 2018, and his higher post-Tour victory form is still lower than Roglic and Pogacar (and Vingo’s Dauphine performance). https://lanternerouge.com.au/2022/0...formance-from-geraint-thomas-before-the-tour/

LOL. I walk naked through the streets of Bogota if Thomas make it to the podium. He will be dumped by the the Slovenians, Vingo and at least 5 other riders like an old dirty rag!!!
Rather 'dangerous' statement if we see how many people left TDS due to COVID. If this happens in the tour as well... even the 10th place might end up in top5 :)

On another note: this race has been hugely underwhelming imo. Before the race i thought this would be the race to watch... but now .. when it is almost done... subpar accross the board.. Don't see how any of these is going to compete with Pogacar in the tour. (and with compete i was expecting at least to see them in the same frame half way a mountain stage...)

It is very hard to make anything of all the races like this one. The best conclusion to make is by using all the data from the past year.
