I don't know the 2018 condition but the rain, the road that looked sometimes in an intermediate state of repair and no Ineos, UAE or JV climb train probably hurts climbing times.

Maybe Ayuso misses race rhythm and confidence a bit after only being on altitude beforehand. Hence pacing himself with a rather conservative effort today.
Could be stronger on Albulapass already if he gets his motor doing.
Anyway this still looks very promising for the Vuelta a Espana. Both him and Evenepoel know which homework they have to do after leaving Switzerland!
Gall seriously looks strong so far. Maybe another try and candidate for the stage victory in La Punt? Skjelmose, Evenepoel & Ayuso can handle him with the TT.

tomorrow's finish not nearly as hard as was todays
the first part of the final classified climb (why is this considered 1 climb and not 2?) tops out 15km from the finish, so I am not sure we see attacks there. The second part of the climb is not very steep at all

Pretty interesting the difference between "after altitude camp" Remco and his form right now. Seemed pretty clear after the TT, if on Giro form he destroys that field.
Most impressed by Sheffield. That is quite the performance from him today.
I remember reading an interview from him where he got asked what race he would like to win in the future... and I believe he said "the TdF". He is ambitious and the future looks bright.
Kid is only 21 and who knows what rider he could develop into. Right now his best results has come in stage-races and this is arguably the toughest one yet for him.

Oh yeah, when the top surface of the asphalt is removed it clearly slows you down uphill.
Still, ~ 6.4 W/KG for 26:29 (for Gall) in the rain without a big mountain train to pace it ain't bad at all...

I don't think rain with moderate temperatures is the biggest deal. And while it wasn't an MTT, here you have drafting, and the stage just wasn't exactly hard either.

Skjelmose with a huge win. It has been a very good season for him and I believe that he can turn into a GT contender. If he can keep his consistency in the next stages he might also win the overall here.
Gall also improving a lot, I think his first win is not far from happening.
Ayuso is in the right path to arrive to the Vuelta in top shape, right now he is still a bit below his best but he could still win the overall here as I expect him to pick some bonus seconds in the next stages and probably get a win as well.
Remco once again did the mistake of going too hard too early, he is not in peak shape obviously but can still win the overall if he paces himself better in the next stages and does a good final TT.
