“We [the Garmin team in 2009] made him. We basically rode him into that fourth place finish in the Tour de France,” he said in a controversial article in today’s Guardian. “It was not a one-man show. It was a team effort. He [Wiggins] wouldn't have hit the top 10 if he'd been on any other team so that's why I was so ****ed off with him. He never once gave us the respect we deserved.

“I'll be very surprised if he made the top 10 of the Tour again. Very surprised,”

“Mark Cavendish understands the game – Brad doesn't. He's a natural-born leader, Cav, whereas Brad has no leadership skills."

“I would have loved [racing for Sky],” he admitted. “It hurts when I see that team staying in the same hotel as me, seeing people I've known for years. It's my world. Those are riders I should be alongside. But I'm banned.”

Yeah I told ya Garmin made him ;)

No but to be fair, he was trained by Rod Ellingworth, head coach of Team Sky for the 2009 Tour...

Well, I read it in about August 2011 so it was a little while ago, but seem to recall multiple confessions to doping in Racing Through the Dark. And multiple instances of sanctimonious tut-tutting thereafter.

While I don't disagree he is a kn0b, what really gets me is the Fat Pat/Hein "nothing to see here, move along people" attitude. The comparison with them was all I was taking issue with.

My issue is Pat was applauding him pre-2012 Olympics as a paragon of converted doper coz he 'fessed up.

Short memory, Patty boy.

Millar had to be dragged, kicking and screaming to the confessional. Was not a voluntary action.

"Dear Rabobank, you were part of the problem. How dare you walk away from your young clean guys who are part of the solution. Sickening."

Dear David: how the fvck you dare to critizice the sponsors when you were part of the doping issue back then? How dare you to blame Rabo to pull out of cycling when "dopers are making the headlines rather than victories?
how the fvck a record of 10 years of heavy doping can convince a company to keep on spending money on a sport that the very goberning body gets to choose who wins & who doesn't?

get real David:mad:- go complain to the mudafvck!ng UCI instead of the sponsors....

as usual

hear hear!

same old david thinking that he is more important than anyone else.....
............he's intelligent but fails to appreciate that everyone does not love the sound of his voice as much as he does himself

david you were not part of the problem............you WERE the problem

good on rabobank hanging in there with sponsorship so long

David Millar ponders future role as UCI president
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19956995

British cyclist David Millar says it is in the "back of my mind" to become the president of the International Cycling Union (UCI) in the future to help clean up the sport.

The UCI has been criticised by many in the wake of the Lance Armstrong drug scandal, in which the seven-time Tour de France winner has been accused of being "a serial drugs cheat" by the US Anti-Doping Agency.

Speaking to Mark Chapman and The Times' Jeremy Whittle on a BBC Radio 5 live Sport special, Millar - who himself had a two-year doping ban from cycling - says he is "not a politician" but believes he "could make a difference" if he sought the top position at the UCI.

:mad::eek:

Please. Start an anti-David Millar for UCI president fund. I will sell my house and donate the proceeds.

Suggestion: do not put bank robbers in charge of the bank.

Aw shucks, he just might take the job if offered to him, but golly, he's not sure if he's the right person.

BS. It's front and center on his mind. Why do you think he was at that press conference last month trying to act like a journalist? This has been his plan all along.

I've always liked David Millar. I just like that he says what he thinks, even though his thoughts are a little harsh at times. He is a good writer and does come off as being rather intelligent. I hope things work out well for him.

What I remember most about Millar the rider is throwing his bike and whining about steep climbs. As far as doping goes, Millar was part of the game, and never broke omertà -- and now he wants to be leader? He just smells the wind shifting direction and is taking advantage of the opportunity.

Millar and JV are exactly in the position they wanted to be in: the press sees and treats them as authorities on anti-doping.
whenever a (anti-)doping issue comes up, Millar and JV are asked for their opinions. They are currently being handed every opportunity to profile themselves as THE anti-doping fighters.
Well-played by both of them.

Be careful what you say. He is seriously profiling himself, and aligning himself with uncle Pat. If Hein goes, Pat can pull the strings from his honorary position with David his understudy.

Sniper is right re DM (and JV).

You are probably right about this. I remember the bike throw and the whining in interviews after steep climbs.

Millar has always been first and foremost about promoting David Millar. He has very carefully constructed a media persona for himself. This is not new - Millar was doing it when he first came onto the scene in the late 1990s. He had a column in one of the UK cycling monthlies - in which he would talk about him and Bobby J (Julich).

The question that needs to be asked of Millar which the media never asks is: 'What have you actually done to further the cause of anti-doping?'

For example - did Millar name his suppliers?

Did Millar talk to WADA etc about doping techniques and how riders avoided testing positive?

Did Millar discuss with WADA etc doping at Saunier Duval when he was there?

How has Millar supported and encouraged whistleblowing from riders within the peloton?

Millar can not be trusted and for him to be in any position of power for cycling would result in a return to the bad old days. Millar should not be let anywhere near any positions of power and influence.

Millar's criticism of Rabobank and support of Wiggins/Sky also speaks volumes about his true intentions, imo.

to the bold:
CN et al. should confront Millar with his previous statements about Floyd.
Again, however, media seem to have a short memory.

Millar gets given a very easy ride by the media. CN in particular ought to know better - again - where is the new tougher journalism that Benson promised us?

Give the guy a break, people can and do change. You bust people's balls when they don't speak out and then when they do, you claim it's for self promotion. They can't win!

Not quite sure why Millar gets the antipathy he does, perhaps its the Sky connection. Yes the stuff he said about Landis was stupid but also a few years ago. I'm not sure what the clinic wants from riders these days because he is very vocal about his anti-doping. Armstrong called him St David when he came out of retirement, as he had changed his views so drastically.

As I have said before, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't in the clinic's eyes.

Millar gets what he gets here because he is all words and no actions. You must admit that for someone profiling himself as THE anti doping rider, it is a bit strange that he never named his own suppliers. It is easy to be vocal about anti-doping. About as easy as saying you never tested positive.
