A one day boycott when the season is dry and quiet is pretty useless.

Do it for the month of July and you'll get pretty much anything you want as you'll hit them in the pocket book where it counts.

I know it will never happen though as most are not committed to the real cause. And on that one day don't open any webpage to with cyclingnews.com in it if you want to do it for real, checking in to see if anyone is posting is just as if you posted on that day.

boyoctting the forum in july is probably what i might do anyway, worst time of the year at this place.

A couple of observations and questions, Dim - how do we get the word out to enough posters to make this worthwhile? No one will notice if there's only 5-10 of us not posting! I suggest that everyone willing to take part should adopt the date avatar.

Finally, I don't think simply not posting will have any substantial impact. What's needed is that a significantly large number of regular posters simply does not go to the forum at all on that day. All of us looking in and reading still provides hits.
Why not write up one announcement post, and post it in every sub-forum a couple of days ahead of time? Keep bumping it to the top (that only takes a moment) so it's clearly visible to everyone regardless of which forum they frequent.

On the day of the strike (if it's to only be one day) it would be easy to view the entire forum at a glance to see if any other threads were active without actually clicking into those threads. Just an idea.

i support the owners. thanks for bringing us these fine adds.

it is a difficult line though as so long as the ads stay, then the people that post all the other images of women not wearing much are threatening to stop.

if only there was some other way to find images of women not wearing much. some kind of search page.

There is also the counter argument that if all the regular posters leave then come the flood of new members in July i can look like one of the knowledgeable ones. Would need agreement from everyone with a clue to move on if the Ads do not stop

I would appreciate if some of you could either post or PM your twitter addys so that some of us can keep abreast of what is going on, and find our new home if it comes to that.

Does anyone know Krebs" twitter addy?

same as here krebs303

you may know somebody in a similar
situation, or you may be in a similar situation, and if your in a
situation like that there's only one thing you can do and that's walk into
the shrink wherever you are ,just walk in say "Shrink, You can get
anything you want, at Alice's restaurant.". And walk out. You know, if
one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and
they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're both ******s and they won't take either of them.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in
singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an
organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said
fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and
walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.

And that's what it is , the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement

while the mods seem to be allowing you guys freedom, threads which are not so relevant to the specific forum would surely lead to closure.

while that is normally true, they might not be dealt with on that particular day.... As has been noted in the past, we dont always get to things immediately

Monday 16th. Just hope we dont get news about Contador then

TBH it is the one thread that I'll avoid, just too big and the responses will be through the roof, there is no way I could read such a thread.

By the way, the word you want is "boycott".

"Boycut" sounds, um, like something from one of those ads.....:D

Guys...and gals, I really think it's putting the cart before the horse worrying about what times to use. That won't matter **** if there's only a dozen or so, or even less, willing to commit.

You have a point. Still, as someone has mentioned if everyone just boycotts on January 16th from their PoV it won't really work. Which is why I, after thinking a bit about it last night, have reach a conclussion that what we could do is this:
Find two people, one who enters the 16th as one of the first on the forum, and one who leaves the 16th as one of the last on the forum. Then the "boycott starter" goes in, puts up the Boycott Threads, and edits his/her avatar. Either at midnight, or, if not a morning person, as the last thing before (s)he goes to bed. And of course, as soon as the rest of us sees it we'll do nothing but go directly to the User Control Page and edit our avatars. The boycott will then be in action until the "boycott stopper" goes in and says so, when (s)he leaves the 16th.
Did that make sense...?

Sounds fine with me!
BTW, is Susan the only one who can write articles to the homepage. I was just thinking;
What would happen is someone made a Forum Hot Topic story about this. Come on; you gotta admit this is a pretty hot topic...

While i hate the ad bar in the middle of posts, asking people not to post on the 16th will make the trolls on here salivate about the opportunity to run loose...

I dont have an alternative method of protest to suggest, but i doubt that FP are gonna give a toss about 1 day.

If their was another forum to go to that would be ideal and i would definitely move to it.

"My friend and I went to the beach last summer, and she forgot to bring a tampon. …"
looks like the title to just the sort of article i'd like to read, given my fondness for cycling and pro bike races. how well they know me......

i assumed this was some sort of trial, but no, it seems a concerted effort to ruin the forum. good work guys.

i'll also boycott (although i'm not really prolific enough to make a difference.)

P.S.
i would be surprised if these ads have significant revenue attached to them. they're just not of any interest to anyone and don't seem designed to actually sell anything.

Well... the mods would still have to monitor the page and deal with trolls the regular way.

As for the FP not caring about one day. What if we make the boycott on the 16th, then on the 23rd, and the 30th, and the 6th, and the 13th, and the 20th, and the 27th, and so on until it's been dealt with?

ok i hesitated but will finally add my 2 pennies...

i don't like the advert bar myself but what you suggested redhead wont work either :)

experience teaches that to make a listener to listen you have to speak HIS/HER language.

a warning --> 1 day ban --> 30 day suspension. ;)

that will get the message across :p

Unfortunately, as has been mentioned, the mods can't really do anything. And what good would it do to warn, then ban Dan? He doesn't really post here much, does he?

you missed the irony, redhead.

i was not talking about banning dan.,, i was joking/kidding about applying his punitive system to the proposed boycott schedule :)

I am shocked and saddened at what I am reading in this thread about protests.

This is a cycling site - have you learned nothing about how to demonstrate?
Not posting for a day is like having a 10 minute delay to the start of a stage, it does little for a protest except pee off the people waiting.

We need a forum users union, (I call President!) to represent the rights and interests of all posters (even girls), we will meet at a cyber cafe once every 4 months and after a few years threaten that if our demands are not met that we will get really cross and threaten and set up a breakaway forum of our own.
