Apparently Contador was already celebrating while riding up the climb knowing that Purito could not have succeeded in taking the 2min+ he had on him

- “sabía que en los últimos metros era imposible recuperar la diferencia que le sacaba. Sabía que Purito iba a atacar, pero yo había decidido no hacerlo y optar por seguir subiendo a mi ritmo para disfrutar."

which is reasonable if u ask me

If you discount his suspension Contador has won each GT 2 times.

I understand they take away the tour '10, the giro is ridiculous though.

I wonder if he ever will ride the giro again or try the triple one time

Wouldn't do it though.

But Contador was the smartest of the 3 :)

Yeah that's cycling, without a plane ITT and many uphill finishes with second bonus and still won against Purito and Valverde.

My verdict is pretty clear

Alberto is now a 7 time GT winner.

Or 5 time for the haters among us

I can accept the case for 6, giving him the Giro, but giving him a tour where he actually tested positive is a bit to much.

You believe that or just trolling?

I get why you say purito but valverde wasn't stronger than Contador.

There are differences between being better or stronger. The last 3km were a good test of who were strong and who not.

I read Purito has done the last 3 km 40-50 seconds faster than Nibali 2 years ago, and Purito was there then. Purito was at his absolute best.

Oh wait, hasn't he passed him already? ;)

Well according to USADA, yes, but I guess UCI hasn't made it official yet but the latest is they will so Lance's GT count will decrease ever so slightly from 7 to zero.

It's 7 for me. And I have been privileged to sit and watch all of them. 3 TDF, 2 Giro and 2 Vuelta. And not yet aged 30. Simply the best GT rider of this generation and arguably of all time. His record when he retires, and I have no doubt he will be in double figures by then, will be the judge.

Contador is already top 10 best GT riders of all time obviously.

But if he really wants to make himself rise above, he needs to try and win the 3 GT's in 1 years.

I know it's crazy and it's pretty much impossible but in a year or 2/3 he should try it again. I just want to see him in pink again lol
