Bought a Tour magazine today. Bjarne Riis offers his opinion on Froome, Quintana, Contador, Aru, Pinot and TJvG. On Contador:

"I am a huge fan of Alberto. From my experience, I know he can beat them all. But I also know that he can't win if his health isn't flawless. He's the best rider of them all. But he makes mistakes causing him not to win. I am a little doubtful he'll be able to win this year. It all depends on his preparation. He suffers quite a lot from allergies. Because of that, last year he wasn't able to recover well for the Tour. If he doesn't contain his allergies, he'll be lagging behind even before the Tour starts. This year's program looks better. He'll be hoping for lots of rain in the Tour. Luckily, July isn't as bad as May and June when it comes to allergies."

Yes, well, to be fair, half of the posters in this thread could have said the same. Fanboys always tend to overrate their idols.
What we saw today was weakness from Contador in a head-to-head with the best GT rider of the past 3 years (when it comes to results).

Contador hasn't been able to deliver good performances in the most important GT of them all since 2011 (though he didn't win, he still showed a couple of good things).

This year, in the first head-to-head with Froome in the mountains, when it is starting to be important, he was decimated. He lost 20 seconds in 2 kms. There are no excuses. If tomorrow he loses time again, then it is preocupating, because the clock is ticking, the Tour is coming and he can't expect to win it next year, if in this year he won't be able to perform accordingly to what he did in the past.

It doesn't matter how good he feels in training, it only matters what he does in races. Numbers in training are good only for mental masturbation between fans, because wins are made on the road, and today Froome won to a fairly disappointing Alberto.

I've allergies, it's a **** ***. It's terrible, especially right now.

Yes I agree, my hayfever has been horrendous the past 4-5 days. Perhaps Contador has allergy problems too, I expected him to be better.

Yea this week it's crazy, my eyes hurt crazy and i've contacts. Makes it even worse xD

So bad right now. I've had exams all week too

Today during one my eyes were itching watering like mad so I rubbed one, only to dislodge an eyelash and get it into my eye. Coupled with like 3 hours sleep on Monday and Tuesday it has been an absolutely horrendous week. Hayfever including.

We'll know more after tomorrow, 80-90% chance of rain. :)

Even just a few drops would help immensely if that's really what's bothering him :)
We will see if it is allergies or he is not peaking for this race.
If it is because of allergies it will be very hard to win the Tour.
If he is not in peak form he will be fine in July.

If he was in peak form right now it wouldnt be a good news.

Also here you can see rain, rain everywhere:

Froome was way better than contador in that stage, what's your point bro? Or maybe you don't know cycling to realise that?

Yes, way better, you can see how much better by the difference of 0 seconds at the end of the stage. Having said that, what's your point bro? Or maybe you don't know cycling to realise Contador was the guy with the green jersey, not the guy with the red one (that was Nibali, so that you know), do you?

Look at the gradients of the col du beal, look how froome led the entire climb and still beat contador in the sprint.

Who was clearly better mate?

Re:

Just because it didn't rain during that stage, doesn't mean there were pollen in the air. Rain earlier in the day could have cleared the air.

Recently if Alberto knows he doesn't have it he'll put in one of those early digs just to show his face then fade. today he was clearly riding to win. hunger or just a bad day?
That isn't true at all.

Please don't remind me of that stage, I still get sick thinking about it.

As for the rain, you just have to look at last year's Giro; his two best performances (2nd behind Gilbert on stage 12, 3rd in the ITT on stage 14) were in the rain.

Froome was wearing the yellow jersey, who should be leading in, at least, the last 12 minutes of the stage (according to the video)?
About the sprint, isn't Froome supposed to be way better than Contador in sprints, according to the armada of Contador fans? That being said, it's normal his victory, in spite of being in better/worse form than Contador.

Who was clearly better mate?
