Pretty poor showing at San Sebastian for a leader.

He wasn't really the leader. How did Kreuziger do heh? He comes from the tour, should be in great shape.
Kreuziger nothing much, he had a cramps, finished 22th the group 50 seconds back. Why are you asking on him here?

Yep, Contador was one of the leaders, look at Tinkoff site.

Cause you're mad that Kreuziger wasted chances because of Contador, let' be honest in here shall? ;)

Nothing wrong being salty about it, but don't be in denial

Ok, lets be honest - no, I'm not mad. But even if I was mad, what would it have to do with Contador's performance and him being or not being leader anyway?

I don't get you reaction. You are speking about denial yet do deny clear fact that he was leader.

Even if he's the leader, it's not Contador's fault that his team doesn't have more competent riders.

He never tried to win this race, neither did he have the capabilities to do, neither any claim that he was gonna try and win it. Just like in '08 when he won the vuelta and 2 stages bro.

Anything else?

Has Froome been 100% confirmed for the Vuelta? I still doubt he'll do so.

He was to ride La Vuelta from the begining of the year, Contador wanst, he will ride for a crash and becoue he will have a very good prep now.

Froome was to ride la Vuelta from the begining of the year.

That way Contador was strong in the spring and Froome not so much

Contador was at a good level in San Sebastian. He could be at his best in the Olimpic, but I am happy he prefer to be here in Burgos.

No, nothing else obviously, his result was poor, that's given, we can agree on that. Basicaly it was just statement not to be discussed about; just plain fact.

But I don't get why you are blaming others

Jesus.

ac just not winning the vuelta would be just unpleasant, ac losing vuelta to froome would be really painful. that would explode all the rails of hype the train goes on. to me it's up to contador to the full . if he still has it in his legs at least on the 2015 Giro level, that's his race to lose, otherwise other contenders can take a chance. either way gonna be a very entertaining battle. ;)

It would be a super performance by Froome if he also won the Vuelta. I don't see it happening but of course if Contador is involved in accidents and what have you anything is possible. Contador seems to avoid trouble in the Vuelta usually, maybe because the pressure is not as intense in the bunch as it is in the Tour and riders don't take as many risks. I still think Contador would have preferred a good showing and at least a podium in the Tour to winning the Vuelta again as the Tour is the one he has had so many problems with since 2010.

Unfortunately. the only times Contador has preferred to race La Vuelta, his homeland GT, has been after bans and crashes

If you look at it year by year, most of them make sense though. Only 2007 and 2009 stand out as years he really missed out. In 2010 the Tour tests were back, in 2011 he rode the Giro, in 2012 he did ride, in 2013 he was terrible, and I doubt he would have done well anyway. In 2014 he planned to do both, but crashed out in the Tour, in 2015 he rode the Giro, and in 2016 it's the same as in 2014.

Now of the years where he didn't try, I can understand 2007 because I suddenly winning your first Tour takes a lot out of you mentally. 2009 I've always found a shame because he was so good, and because the WCRR was one of the best possibilities there have been for him.

In '09 he would have won the vuelta easily, it is a shame but it was prob cause of the astana affair that was going on at that time.

Contador wasn't sure where he was gonna ride next year and then the whole armstrong and vino stuff.

Valvpiti is grabbing at straws here

He could have won by 20 minutes and you still would have found fault. No one expected anything more than him finishing the race.

Would have found his post race comments disrespectful, surely it was all Kreuziger!

Red Rick: Its just funny to think about. Not once has he ridden Tour + Vuelta, despite being Spanish. It has been plan B in every year despite 2014, whereas other Spaniards like Rodriguez and Valverde pretty much has ridden it every time they have been able to. Froome also, apart from 2011. But I think some of it also is due to him being on an incredible high level in the spring, I doubt would have won any of the races after the Tour apart from 2009. And even then, riding full spring schedule + Tour + Vuelta, we don't have any benchmark for Contador there.

A better comparison would be with Indurain who also preferred the Tour and the Giro. Having said that, I think Contador would have willingly gone to the Vuelta at least once had crashes and other circumstances not forced his hand in various ways. If I recall correctly he commented during the '13 Vuelta that he wanted to return and so I think he probably would have gone to the Vuelta in '14 even without the crash in the Tour.

You only see blue... just blue...

“For Alberto, he comes here from injury, so we have to see how he is. We will focus on bringing him through the race in a good way, and we will see how he recovers from San Sebastian and go from there,” said directeur sportif Ivan Basso.

“For the other riders, it’s a good race to take their opportunities for results. We will see day-by-day who can do what. In this race, I think you can get your own results, which is important for the riders. I want to see the Tinkoff spirit, which is in our DNA, to see the team fighting, motivated, committed and working hard in the race.”

So Zero expectations of Berto and Basso is sounding like a DS!
